XPLOR Bonneville Rally

The upcoming XPLOR Bonneville National Rally on September 2-6, 2007 is generating a lot of buzz. Over 200 XPLOR riders have signed up for this event. Bonneville Salt Flats is one of the most legendary spots in the world, where over the years countless Land Speed records have been set.
New records are set by ever-increasing speed and technology, but faster, more powerful machines and newer ways to cheat the wind can’t guarantee a record. It takes not only technology, but the best and most experienced riders to break new ground. At the end of the day, a top speed record is merely a new challenge for future racers, as no record exists at Bonneville for too long.
Back in 1937, the legendary BMW racer Ernst Henne set a new World Land Speed record of 173. 68 MPH, on his specially built, streamlined Boxer-powered machine, in 2005 Andy Sills at Bonneville matched Henne’s long lasting record on a practically stock, off the showroom floor BMW K 1200 S. Bonneville Salt Flats is certainly one of the most vibrant and tangible places to watch the evolution of our sport.
This Bonneville rally is BMW’s only national XPLOR event for this year and it promises to be truly memorable. Andy Sills is going to attempt for a new record, this time on a specially modified K 1200 S. And if you ever get tired of watching countless motorcycles and a few streamliners go after a record on salt, you can always go for a demo ride, as our Demo Truck will be there. We’ll also be offering an XPLOR GS ride, and hosting lunches and a few dinners and other surprises through out the week.
Registration for XPLOR Bonneville is closed, but your more then welcome to show up and participate…and we’ll take good care of you.” See you on the Salt.

XPLOR the Performance Center. Sept 21-23, 2007

This September 21-23rd, BMW motorcycle owners and XPLOR riders are invited to be among the first to experience the BMW Performance Center in South Carolina, where a new BMW Rider Training program will be launching for the first time ever in the United States.
Using some of the same drills featured at the BMW Enduro Park in Hechlingen, Germany, as well as some on-road exercises, the rider training at the BMW Performance Center will offer motorcyclists a chance to improve their riding skills for both off-road rambles and street rides. And we are inviting you to be among the 75 lucky BMW riders who will be able to join us for a weekend of riding, camaraderie, food and more riding – all for zero dollars.
Through a variety of drills and tests, riders can learn proper body position, balance, braking, and throttle and clutch control techniques from an expert team of BMW Performance Center riding instructors. No matter what level of rider you are you will benefit from this instruction. You’ll also have the opportunity to put these skills and techniques into use on a variety of road and off-road rides in the area.

The BMW Performance Center will launch the Rider Training program on September 9th, but on September 21-23 BMW riders who register through bmwxplor.com will get a taste of this instruction, plus a BBQ lunch, tour of the BMW Performance Center, and a sampling of the superb riding that this part of the South offers. (Deal’s Gap is a mere four hours down the road.)
This event is limited to just 75 BMW owners on a strictly first-come, first-served basis by registering on bmwxplor.com. Be one of the first to experience BMW motorcycle Rider Training at the BMW Performance Center and register today!
Registration is now open for “XPLOR the Performance Center”. Registrants will receive further information on the total agenda, lodging, maps of the area and of course, contact and address information. See you there!
L.A. TO N.Y. CHARITY RIDE

Saturday, September 1st, two BMW riders will undertake a charity ride from Los Angeles to New York, on motorcycles and gear donated by BMW Motorrad. The riders embarking on this journey are actor Charlie Cox, star of the new movie “Stardust,” and graphic designer Scott Campbell, owner of Mama-Tried Design and Saved Tattoo in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Scott is also a world-renowned painter and BMW adventurer who has traveled to South America on his F 650 GS. Their trip will be chronicled on E!, and there will also be an on-line logbook of it on Conde Nast Traveler’s website.
All proceeds will be donated to The Parry Center for Children in Portland, Oregon. The Parry Center provides quality care for children who are orphans or have been removed from abusive families. Offically, these kids are referred to as “property of the state.” To care for them, they need health insurance, art supplies, clothing, music, and other support. Please support this noble effort by Charlie and Scott to help some of America’s neediest children by making a donation to their cause today.
A unique challenge is also planned for the ride. During their cross country trip, Charlie and Scott will conduct a friendly bet to see if American riders are friendlier than British. (Charlie is from London and Scott is from New Orleans.) Scott claims that American riders are friendlier than their English counterparts, so during their ride, they will offer the biker “wave” to every fellow rider they pass. The idea is to keep a tally and for every rider who waves back, Charlie will donate ten dollars to charity. For every rider who doesn’t wave back, Scott will donate ten dollars to charity. For all the details, check out The BMW Ride for Charity or visit Scott’s XPLOR rider page, “scampbell”.
