BMW XPLOR
XPLOR Blue Ridge (Tarmac and GS Rides)
June 13-15, 2008, Charlottesville, VA area

Legacy of the Blue Ridge

Blue Ridge. When motorcyclists hear those words, they think of one of the longest, curviest and most popular riding routes in the country. But the Blue Ridge is more than just a single road. It’s more than just roads, period.

June 13 – 15 in Charlottesville, VA

Join BMW XPLOR for a unique double ride event to discover the best of the Blue Ridge. It’s another of our famous off-road GS rides, but with a twist – we can now accommodate tarmac riders too. There is no charge for participation, as this is a way for BMW Motorcycles to say “thank you” to our fellow BMW devotees for their support.

Roam the Tarmac with Nate Kern

For our on-road participants on any of our BMW motorcycles, you will be given a route sheet for self-guided tours of the beautiful Virginia Piedmont region, featuring historic sites, horse farms, wineries and some of the best unknown two-lane roads you’ll ever see. Well-known BMW Moto-ST racer Nate Kern will take out his personal bike to join us for one of the tarmac routes and he’ll show you how the track really can make you a safer street rider. You will link up with the off-road riders for dinner at the end of the day Saturday and of course, swap stories to argue about who had the most fun. You set your own pace: just remember, you are on public roads in a state infamous for the highest speeding fines in the country… so be careful out there!

Dirt Farming with Jimmy and Heather Lewis

BMW enthusiasts with a GS, Xchallenge or Xcountry with knobby tires we have something special. We’re taking over a 120-acre tract of farmland, rolling hills, running streams and miles of single track trail (plus grass track and MX course) located just outside historic Charlottesville, Virginia. The first “day at the farm” will consist of rider training with the world-famous Jimmy and Heather Lewis. Off-road trail sections can be ridden as often as you like and for the competitive minded we’ll have GS-MX Time Trials on the Grass Track. The “Farm” is a perfect playground for off-road motorcyclists. No matter what your skill level, there’s something for you to do. A picnic-style lunch will be provided by a local caterer.

The next day you can practice what you learned on our GPS-guided Adventure Tour. We will offer a couple of routes of up to 150 miles thru the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, located near the hotel. Lead and sweep riders will help you navigate the dirt and gravel roads thru parts of the George Washington and Thomas Jefferson National Forests. The routes are both fun and scenic, while still challenging.

All participants will receive swag bags, a dinner banquet on Saturday night and much more, all FREE! You pay for your transportation to and from the event, hotel accommodations and a meal or two – the rest is on us! Off-road participants will receive training, maps and GPS routes (BMW Navigator/Garmin format).

Register Now on BMW XPLOR

This double event will undoubtedly fill up quickly, so register now at www.bmwxplor.com/events/show_event/200.

There are two parts to the event: 1) The XPLOR Blue Ridge Tarmac (on-road) and 2) the XPLOR Blue Ridge Dirt (off-road). You may only register for one of the two parts – but we will still get a chance to mix the two groups together.

Registration is on a first come, first-served basis and opens on April 21, 2008. Registration closes on May 31st or whenever all the spots have been filled.

Be sure to check back every few days in case someone who registered can no longer attend and his/her spot becomes available. If you register and find out at the last minute that you can’t go, let us know right away so we can open up a space for someone else. Email Andrea Noe at Andrea.Noe@bmwna.com with event and registration questions.

Participation is Limited – AMA Membership Required

XPLOR Blue Ridge Dirt can accommodate 75 participants and the Tarmac section can accommodate 50 riders. All riders must participate on their BMW motorcycle (GS, Xchallenge or Xcountry with knobby tires required for the Dirt section).

For insurance purposes all participants must be AMA members. We encourage you to register as an AMA member in advance of the event if you are not already a member. For more information on membership, please visit the AMA website www.amadirectlink.com.

Host Hotel Reservations

Be sure to also make your reservation at our host hotel, Best Western Charlottesville Airport Inn & Suites. The phone number is 434-985-1855. There is a room block of 50 rooms under the name “XPLOR Blue Ridge.” We have the ability to add more rooms to the room block, but we have to fill 50 rooms each night, first. Each guest is responsible for payment of his/her own reservation. The group rate is $129/night plus tax (5% state and 2% occupancy) and includes a continental breakfast as well as other amenities.
