Hi, The Xplor web site and the forums are both brand new. So, take some time and look around and please feel free to provide feedback.

Shiva,

How may I locate a particular member without scrolling through the photos of all the members?

 Thanks, S.

Just type in their name in the search >>> rider dialog box at the top of this page.  This will lead you to their Rider's page and ultimately their galleries.  You can add them to your "Buddies" list for quick future reference.

This is navigationally better than the public messages board and the "Rider" section essentially expands the Profile capabilities.  The ad hoc photo upload is something from the previous forum that I have sorely missed so it is a welcome addition.  A robust PM cabability and a real-time IM chat lounge might be welcome additions for some users, but personally I don't see a big use for them.  I would expect that at some time in the near future the other site will be phased out as it would be difficult and undesirable to maintain similar threads in both locations.

thanks for the feedback. BMW has no intention to run 2 forums. so this is going to the discussion forum and the other will phase out in a short while. :) S

Shiva,

Is the plan to have a knife-edge cutover where one day the old url shots us over here or are you looking for a more voluntary migration?

In either case I think socializing the plan to the forum members would be a good thing.

hi, the plan is to give you guys some time and then close the older forum.  members can feel free to copy and paste text from the old forum to the new forum.   admin will make that announcement.  cheers, S

yet another nit to pick.  If you navigate here to the forums from the nav bar at the bottom the link is called "forums".  If you use the menu on the http://www.bmwxplor.com/riders page, the same thing is called "XPLORER Message Boards"  Shouldn't the convention be consistant and if not (which I couldn;t imagine) shouldn't it be XPLOR Message Boards?

an even smaller nit is that the hover text om the header is incomplete, the Riders link still says Headert2_2 instead of rider, probably the default name

Thanks for helping to keep the bmw cycle forum going. My only concern is the speed to get places on the new site. I really enjoy the quick access to the forum of the other site. My guess is the additonal graphics etc. to enhance this sites is slowing the page load down.

To me it (the speed) kinda feels like a nice summer day on my favorite curvy road and just as I get to my 1st corner I come upon a 100+ bike parade doing 40mph and the road is a double yellow.

Still, I look forward to the changes...change is good otherwise I would still be riding my Schwinn with cards smacking against the spokes wishing I had my brothers honda scrambler.

Hey Shiva, nice that you can upload an image instead of having to link from elseware.. when you insert image, does it link it or actually download a local copy of the picture too?

Also, it'd be really nice if you could upload multiple images and then go back and insert the images into your post using an attachment pointer. I've seen this on another forum and it makes things really pretty smooth for creating ride reports etc.

weird features on the insert... cool that i can resize/move around!

test

hi, it actually uploads an image.  the system is similar to the profile, where it loads up images. so the site will host images for you guys.  Xplor is still in beta in some way, it's being improved everyday.  so please keep the comments coming.  some things we may not be able to address of course, but we are open to your concerns and ideas.

the site was actually a lot slower about a month ago, it has been tweaked much.  I think it's supposed to get even faster.  because it's running large animations, it's a bit slow, but I think it would be possible to have animation and speed on one site.

cheers, S

hi shiva,

the preview doesn't show the uploaded image. unless i am doing something wrong. and is there a way to add comments to images or in between them to narrate a story, etc...? does the upload image feature only allow you to add one image? and to add more images you will have to input the url for them like on the old forum? if so, why would there be a limitation of that sort to a new feature that makes this site easier to use? if all of these answers are on the site, forgive me. i am just thinking as i type and try to do things.

so far, it seems a lot easier to navigate and user friendly than the other forum. i haven't played with it too much though.

thanks, keep tuning it, it has good potential.

hi, not all the issues have been resolved with this new forum. I think you guys should be able to post multiple images in one post and type comments in between, specially useful for travel stories.  our tech team will look into that.  keep the comments coming.

unlike almost every other discussion forum on the web, the forum at BMWXplor is custom made from the ground up by the tech team, hence it will need some time to become optimum.

S, I think this is a vast improvement especailly with the photo posting capabilites. I felt too tired to navigate other places to post pixs and then return to the forum. i should add i never did get one posted.

Several Comments:

  • the font is too small
  • spell check would be nice

Thanks. h
