There some great roads in the country around Omaha and surrounding communities.

I just took a ride north out of Omaha.  Took a side road east that wound north right by the Blair airport and found a super part dirt part pavement road that ended up commming out near the nuclear plant south of Blair.  I spent the rest of the day riding the hilltop roads back to Omaha, ended up comming out at Ft. Calhoun.  Lots of trees, curves, wild life, views overlooking Missouri river were awsome.  CoRd 37, 39.

If you get out into western Nebraska go north out of Oshgosh toward Cresent lake.  The ride north to highway #2 is breath taking Sand Hills vistas.  You can park, look out away from the road and it looks like it did 300 years ago. Parts of the road is gravel and part (the worst paert) is 12 foot wide blacktop.  It winds through the front yard of several ranches.  This is a seldom travelled road that it well worth the effort.  If you were running right through with no stops it would only take a couple hours.  If you get faint hearted on rail road tracks do not take this road.  Thee are no tracks, but you do go ever several cattle guards when you cross past the occasional fence.
