Just returned from Jim Hyde's Advenutre Challenge in Castaic, Ca. What a hoot! Everything was great! The day rides, the Challenge itself, the food, the enterainment. I truly believe this is going to be THE Adventure Bike event in the coming years.
I did not ride the challenge itself (because I suck) but I did get a chance to test out some of the courses while nobody was looking and I can tell you that they were tougher than they look. You need to know a little about everything. Anyway, go here: http://dakardag.phanfare.com/album/310591#imageID=18878141 for a seven minute video that will give you some idea of what went on. CAUTION: Dakar Dag has a wierd sense of humor and there are some bad words! Otherwise, crank the sound up! Personally, I think it's funnier than...you know what! (Of course I would, I made it) See you there next year! \D Dag

Dag, Very nice. I'd like to have the brake/clutch lever concession out there. But does look like manly fun. Bob

Dag, Thanks for posting this! I brought a bunch of files home to work on this weekend but, I'm not getting squat done mostly because this 'puter is doing a slow-burn. Now after seeing your post I'm gonna ride over to my office to watch your clip on my REAL computer! I was there too and you're absolutely right.....what a blast of a weekend! You have more common sense than I do because I entered the "Challenge" thinking I knew how to frigging ride. I DNF-ed after falling twice in the hay bales and again "climbing" out of the 2nd River Wash. One look up that damn hill that came next sent me back to my trailer and the ice packs!!! (that's my grey toybox just outside the corral in your 3rd photo). Maybe we'll meet at next years' Challenge. To anyone who wasn't there.....DO NOT miss the next one. It was one of the best riding weekends I've had in a long, long time. Dr. Dave

Music was great but, the edited sound clips have me on the floor laughing.....tears still blurring my vision.....hilarious! Time to roll it back to the house and open a beer and sip a little tequilla.....<<<Cheers to Dag...sip, sip, gulp>>> Have a good evening, Dave

OK y'all.......I'm starting to scare myself here. I think Dak's 7 minute creation is a classic little presentation.....I think he's got a great sense of humor.....seeming perfectly normal to me. Hell, it/he wouldn't be HALF as funny if it was what some like to call "politically correct"! Sooooo.....help me out here folks. Hasn't anyone else taken a look at it and thinks it's funny????? If so, PLEASE post a comment or two, if for no other reason than to HELP ME! You can even lie, it's OK, honest. Ya see......the "COMMITTEE" (12 little guys with loud voices that hold their spontaneous board meetings between my ears) is in session, and I don't even get a vote! They're saying things to me like "hey you wingnut, what are you laughing at?"....."that's not the least bit humerous"....on & on & on. So, I hope the next time I log on I see at least ONE new post. Whew, I already feel better just getting that outa my system. Oh oh, I just heard the gavel.....I better get these guys something to eat or my head might explode. Enjoy your weekends, Dave

Brilliant. Two opposable thumbs up. Best ride report I've ever seen. Wouldn't let him babysit the kids though.

Dag, Sorry for the late reply..I've been riding to Reno and back a lot this summer from Newbury Park and have not had much chance to check the forum. Thanks for the offer to send a better pic. That one is fine and will go nicely with the many others of me in the mud that have been sent to me. I still find clumps of dirt in hidden places. Trying to get to S Carolina on the 21st of Sept.
