Well, on Saturday (8/18/07) my dad and I decided to take the RT's for a spin.  We headed out on Austin Bluffs past UCCS aka CU-Colorado Springs.  We rode down I-25 to Circle and took 115 down to Penrose.  From there we headed west on 50 to the Royal Gorge.  We didn't go to the bridge but stopped at a picnic area to take some pictures of the east end of the gorge.  Here's a picture of my dad and the two bikes at the picnic area.

Here's a picture of the river flowing out of the gorge.  There were a few rafts on the river.

As we walked back from the edge, I saw this goofy looking, dead tree...

From the gorge, we rode west on 50 for a while and stopped alongside the Arkansas River.  From there, we rode back east to highway 9 and headed north to highway 24 and Hartsel.  We stopped at a gas station there to get some drinks.  While we were there, two guys pulled up in nearly identical Yamaha Ventures.

From the gas station in Hartsel, we rode east on 24 up Wilkerson Pass.  We stopped at the visitor center and I took a picture of the valley to the west.  There was a lot of haze and low clouds, so you can just barely see the mountains (I believe the collegiate range) off in the distance.

As we walked back to the bikes, I saw this trike.

There were a ton of bikes on the road enjoying the great weather.  I'm planning to go riding in the mountains again on Wednesday.  Hopefully the weather will be good and I'll be able to get some good pictures.

I'll contribute a couple of more pictures.

Here's Dan taking some of those pictures of the Arkansas river flowing through the Royal Gorge.

Here I think you can see some of the rafters. The raft trip through the Gorge is fun.

This may give you a better idea of the scale of the geography.

If there is any doubt about most of Colorado being a high desert.....

The RT's do just fine on dirt roads.... Wouldn't want to go off-road though. biggrin
