The plan is this: Send my 2007 F 650 GS to Seattle from Rhode Island and then ride it back. I checked Amtrak -- it only has an auto service from Washington D.C. to Orlando Fla. Does anyone know about alternative rail transportation or reputable trucking companies? Or any other way to get a bike to the Northwest?
Thanks.

I shipped my F this year with the Federal Companies http://www.federalcos.com/motorcycle.html from Atlanta to Anchorage. My experience with them was excellent. I know they have a warehouse in Tacoma, WA. They provide special pallets and tie downs. The bike will stay on the pallet to the final destination. During transport, there may be one or two truck changes. However, bikes are moved safely with fork lift trucks. I have seen them do it and was very pleased...

Trex63. Thanks for suggesting Federalcos motorcycle movers. But even in the last six hours the plan has changed completely. Staying on the east coast and heading north to Nova Scotia and possibly Newfoundland. Maybe next year for federalcos!
Again, thanks! p.s. This is my first inquiry on bmwxplor and i''m getting used to the site. looks like your alaska trip was fun. and your photos of modifications on your Dakar was instructive for this newbie. I picked up a lot of useful ideas.

Gawdamn, remember that peanut soup? c I offered the rest of my vacation travel fund for the secret recipe and got nowhere. If anybody travels thru a place called Lunenburg on the southern coast of Nova Scotia just west of Halifax, there's a little cafe right off the water's edge.... about 50 yards east of the Subway sandwich shop. Take plenty of Rolaids and enjoy.... I'm pretty sure the place is called....

My first thought was to look up the cost of a flight to Rhode Island and offer to ride it to Seattle if you pay for the gas or the the meals along the way.... I could even offer a four day arrival time door to door, even stopping at my parents house in Minnesota for some of my mom's almost famous meatloaf! ...just kidding, have a great trip!
