Hi,

I live in SW COnnecticut, near Rt. 15 & 95. Where are you located?

I am trying to get a group October 7 and 14 to ride to either Newport or  New York.

NEWPORT will be a straight shot up 95 to Newport, ride exterior of town, walk and lunch then ride more in town then straight shot back to CT. I used to live in Newport, I know this trip perfectly.

NEW YORK will be a straight shot to Bear Mountain, hang and see the bikes and cars. Ride up to Cold Springs for  awalk, lunch and walk, then ride slowly home any direction. I have done this ride  afew times.

Let me know, we can meet along the way. sorry, no drugs or heavy drinking, we ride as fast as the slowest, but try to cruise 70 to 80, hopefully three to seven riders.

Ciao

OPuch, why not, so sadsad

Hey, you didn't miss much. Sevne riders had great initial interest, four siad yes, by Friday noght, NOT ONE was returning calls, typical of high end bike owners-they never ride them! I did  asolo ride back home to Rhode Island and visited friends. Newport, two sluggos from last week just emaild with thier lame excuses and have interest in Newport the 14th. I have two thoughts:

1) Vermont to see the colors IF colorful in southern Vewrmont.

2) Newport becasue there will be no crouds and an easy ride up 95 this time of year.

Rides unsure, what are your thoughts?

Hello All,

I am new to explor and could not read the original post about reoute 6 to erie but I took a very similar trip a few weeks ago.  I live in Stratford, CT and rode with a friend from Mass.  We met at exit 15 (Route 84) and stayed on 84 until we cleared Danbury.  We took exit 2 and stayed on Route 6 West all the way to Meadville, PA.  From there were broke northwest to Cleveland where we visited the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.  We checked into an area motel and Went down to Canton to see the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  I had contacted someone from the BMW Anonymous who suggested that we go to the Bike NIght at the local Quakeer Shake N Lube.  Unfortunately bike nite got rained out but we did get to meet our anonymous contact and had a long relaxing dinner sharing stories.

We then traveled back east on Route 20 and stopped at Cooperstown.  Altogether we were on the road 7 days.  We called this trip the "Hall of Fame Trip." My riding buddy is an avid baseball player and fan, this was his first trip to Cooperstown.

The destinations were an excuse to go for the ride.  It was a terrific run.  Both Route and Route 20 are good riding roads.  While largely not as twisty as some roads, they were great riding allowing for a lot of open riding and yet reasonably convenient services so that we could depend on finding food, fuel and lodging within a reasonable time.  There are numerous side trips that provide more challenging roads and great scenery.

PA ha some good information available for travelers.  You can get a set of good maps and listings from the Dept of Tourism and there is a Route 6 Tourist site.  (I have already lost the addresses but easy enough through Google)  There is also a motorcyle site for the mountain area:  www.motorthruthemountians.com.

New York has a Dept of Tourism but I found the information soo massive that it wasn't really helpful.  You might have a better experience.

I am sorry that I could not join the group from Canton Cycles today, but I just learned of the ride and had committed to babysit for one of my grandsons (Probably the better of the two alternative by a very small margin).

Would love to have an opportunity to join other small group rides.  Becasue I am semi-retired, almost any day, except Saturday are usually available.  Sunday is almost always good.
