Hi, i rear-ended my 2002 k1200rs into a car (mazda protege).

the front suspension broke in half.  cost to repair is 8-12k insurance said it's totaled. they say i can keep the bike for 3k.

is it possible to get some money out of it by getting what's left from the bike and selling it for used parts? if yes then an advice will be appreciated.

thank you,

Check out http://www.ibmwr.org/market/ and determine what the parts would sell for.  You might come out ahead, but there will be a fair amount of work inolved and you'll have to deal with all of the issues of long-distance sales.  The flip side, is that you'll probably learn a lot as you disassemble the bike and you won't have to worry about getting it back together again.  Me, I'd take the check and be done with it.  Psychologically, I wouldn't want to have the reminder sitting around for the next 6 months.

They say the best thing about a BMW is it's engine. IF your engine still works, you may still get more value from it than from selling it used. IF you are so inclined, and IF you're truly into the spirit of innovation, you may try this previously posted option: http://www.bmwxplor.com/forums/topic/show/400

Seriously, I also keep this option in the back of my mind to help numb the pain, if (knock on wood) I get to render the rest of the bike useless. Watercraft might be an alternative too. Imagine a K-engined hydrofoil?! woo hoo!!
