Doea anyone know anything about the current status of European delivery of BMW motorcycles for touring Europe and then shipping the bikes home. There used to be such a program. Does it still exist, and if so, who is a good contact person?

- just tried doing the same thing last month through my dealer, and supposably that program is currently not functioning. He offered the alternative, buy and ship. z

Have you found any info on shipping a bike to Europe and back? Mike Stefan Knopf of Knopf Motorradreisen in Heidelberg ships bikes. He usually ships them over after the Daytona event, or something like that. Unless you are staying for an extended period, shipping isn't worth it. Do a break even calculation renting versus shipping costs. --------------------------------- All the best, Alex

He offered the alternative, buy and ship. z If the dealer meant "buy one there and ship it back", that can be a problem. Importing a European bike can be problematic. I don't know the details, but I do remember reading about them. If the dealer meant "buy one here and ship it over", sure, you can do that, but is it worth it? For example, renting will run you €679 (about US$1000 today) a week with 2500 kilometers for a R1200 GS and €559 (about US$825 today) for every week thereafter. I used Allround Motorradvermietung's rates in Frankfurt as an example. Most places charge more.

Now I got so many pics, I don't know which ones to choose. --------------------------------- All the best, Alex

Doea anyone know anything about the current status of European delivery of BMW motorcycles for touring Europe and then shipping the bikes home. As already mentioned, that plan is no longer offered by BMW NA and BMW Canada. But if you do want to head over to tour Europe and the Alps, I did put together an info thread... Alps Motorcycle Tours - Priced Right, How to go about... http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,180.0.html --------------------------------- All the best, Alex
