This is my first post here on XPLOR, so bear with me.
I just wanted to say whay an incredible race we had in the 8 hours of Daytona. To date this was for sure my most exciting race yet. The entire 8 hours were riviting, no one knew who would be leading the next time by and for all of us at San Jose BMW, this is one we will remember. As I took to the bike for my final stint, sub-frame mangled, exhaust hanging, fairing shaking and front brake iffy, I thought just bring it home. After the few laps behind the safety car, I changed my game plan and thought I could win it. The bike to me felt absolutely perfect mid corner and also in a straight line, so i went for it. On the third lap after the restart I was as close to the leader as I had been all race long and really tried my hardest to hang in there with him. Next lap things went a miss. The electronic shifter must have come unplugged, that cost me some time. The brake began to come farther and farther back to the grip and the lead bike began to make a decent gap. So I decided to play it smart and maintain a fast pace, just in case he ran wide on got caught up in some lappers or something, and finish the race. For the final ten rounds or so the brake was done. Every corner I was four fingered across the lever, squishing the grip by pulling so hard to get any performance at all. By the end there was nothing and i had to use the transmission for all it was worth to haul the beemer down. After the checkers I rode down to pit lane and had only the rear brake to stop me, it was cool.... Again, we had the recipe for victory but as racing goes things are out of control for the most part and it comes down to everything being 100% perfect. I think we were fortunate to arrive second with everything that happened. Thanks for the support to all. Brian

Between your and BMWIvan's reports, it sure sounds like it was a great race. Steven ---------------------------------

Como esta, Brian! When you brought the bike in at race end, I immediately grabbed the front brake - NOTHING at all! I was blown away that you continued that blistering pace despite the .50 cal machine gun staccato blast of the exhaust leak and the rest of the machine's high sided wounds. It was the most incredible race I've seen, and the truth is, after TWO safety checks by the Moto ST officials to make sure the bike was still rideable (approx 60 seconds) and the highside inflicted on poor Mini Cooper by some inexperienced yahoo coming onto the track (1 minute+, we still only missed first place by 24 seconds! You three experts rode the rubber off that machine. The R1200S will go round the world thrice based on what I've seen it endure on the track this season! Hat's off to Chris Hodgson and the team for performing the pit stop ballet right on the money. Next season will be even more challenging and exciting. So tune in, race fans, to see some of the most intense twin and four cylinder BMW action on track across the country. Splendid job at Daytona, San Jose BMW.

Right on! For sure Brian you brought her home so we could enjoy the podium! Super dramatic and just and all around team effort to be able to stay on the box. It was an honor to be your teammate this season. Let's take it all in 08'!
Best regards, Nate

Brian -
Your the best! Had fun watching you at Infineon a couple of times this year and had the pleasure of meeting you there in your pit. Great riding and congrats to the entire SJBMW team for a great job this year.
