I've reserved my spot for the dirt portion. Now I need to try and clear a few things in order to actually go.

Just signed up! Tarmac. Got some fresh Metzelers and don't feel like picking my bike up the whole weekend..., even though i only layed it down softly once in soft sand at pine barrens (i had Contis on then) and didn't drop the X-challenge i borrowed at all in the adirondacks. I know it says go at your own pace but I imagine it will be a spirited ride, dirt or tarmac (w/Nate) but just curious what people think about riding two up? --------------------------------- "Riding is so much better..." I am signed up for the dirt portion , I will have a fresh set of TKC's mounted and ride down from upstate NY either Thursday Night or Friday early AM. Looks like 515 miles and about 12hrs on all secondary roads. I am also looking at camping at some nearby campgrounds.

Last year I did the entire Blue Ridge Parkway. I plan to do it again this year it is a blast. I just picked the beginning of June because of the good weather and long days. I did not know that there was a national BMW convention at Asheville that weekend. I never saw so many bikes on the BRP or that many BMWs around before. It was a blast!!!

Just signed up for the tarmac ride. Read all the fine details and saw where you had to be a member of the AMA and have the card with you which is being taken care of. My other question I have that is kinda unclear is if we are supposed to be staying at the Hotel mentioned or do we have options. My personal option is to be staying at the KOA campground rather than a hotel. Looking forward to this upcoming event!!!
Found some more info and from what I can understand there will be like a block of 50 rooms for all the riders. If and when they fill up, more rooms may be available. So I guess what I am trying to say is we do have options but they would like anyone staying at a hotel to please use the host hotel. I will be opting for the campground to do a little camping also.

I saw it briefly mentioned when registering but found information here also on the AMA Membership requirement. http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/etc/news.jsp?label=xplor_blue_ridge

I don't know the details of this particular event, but I do know that with other events the promoters use the AMA blanket to achieve discounts on insurance and assistance with other business details. The AMA provides some framework to an event that leads to a smoother and safer event execution. The hitch is that participants in the event must be AMA members. Which is easy and pretty cheap. Plus AMA members get a very nice magazine. Just guessing. C

I am staying at http://www.lydiamountainlodge.com/. Really inexpensive lodging and you can share a cabin with some other people to make it even cheaper. Looks very nice and cozy as well. It's about fifteen miles from the hotel. We still floor space for a couple more! (total six in the cabin) Around thirty bucks each per night.
