I would like to get a set of X-Moto wheels and tires for my X-Challenge. Does anyone know where I can get a set for a reasonable price?

Even an unreasonable price.  lol

http://www.woodyswheelworks.com/ sells complete wheels 17" wheels for the X and will custom build just about anything.  I believe woody uses OEM hubs and laces new rims/spokes.  You could also pick up your own OEM hubs and have any reputable local bike shop lace them up.  If you are looking for wheels actually off an X-Moto, good luck finding them or be willing to pay through the nose for new ones and then have to fabricated new caliper brackets.

Thanks for the reply.  I'll check it out.

You mentioned fabing new caliper brackets if I went with actual x-moto wheels.  I was told that the only difference between the moto and challenge was the wave rotor versus the smooth. Calipers and mounting is all the same.   Do you have different information?  Thanks again.

I believe the xmoto uses a different diameter rotor (320mm vs 300mm), thus you need a different mounting bracket for the caliper.

I was looking into this a while back but realized that I could have a trick custom wheel laced up on OEM hub for the same price of a complete OEM xmoto wheel assembly.

I took your advise and contacted Woody's.  Great guys to work with, and extremely nice wheels!  I ended up with blue anodised Excel rims and Woody's "super lace".  Very nice work and decent price for the whole package!

Wheels look great!  I am going to get some work done from Woody before I make my first attempt at the BITD Vegas to Reno in August.  Thinking Excel A60 + superlace.

That's what I want - what did it cost? What size and type of tires are you running?

Did you send in your stock wheels or did they supply new hubs? Any help you can offer on mods would be helpful - I've decided I'm not a dirtbike guy after all. What are you doing about that ouchy seat?

Wow...

That looks sweet...and I bet it's a ton of fun with those wheels...

I'm leaning towards building a set up for my X as well...

Do report back on the tire brand, size, and if you would use them again...Your feedback can save me some work.

I got the 411 from Chris at Woody's Wheelworks -

$1500 for the set including stock hubs, extra for disc and sprocket carriers if you want a quick swap-out set up.

Wheel sizes are: 17"x3.5" front (120x70 tire), 17"x4.25" rear (150x60 tire) which provides a lot of rubber choices. 2-3 weeks for blue, 1-2 weeks for black or silver.

Call them at 866 936 0323 and have your Visa or Mastercard ready. But get in line behind me ;-p

And for those of you who were asking about the tires, I can tell you those are Avon Distanzias.

They get good reviews on the supermoto forums I've visited.
There are a couple of things to keep in mind.

  • The Distanzia come in two compounds
    • Adventure Sport
    • Supermoto
  • The supermoto compound is a bit softer. It wears out more quickly, but you also get better grip on paved roads. If you want the supermoto compound, be sure to order the following sizes:
    • front: 120/70 R17
    • rear:  150/60 R17  or  160/60 R17

On tires, Motostrano seriously favors Continental Contiforce SM but I've read elsewhere that they wear really quickly (as in less than 1000 miles!). I'm partial to Pirellis and looking at Scorpion Synchs for my set-up. They look pretty similar to the Avons but are reputed to wear 5-7K miles.

Thanks for the info.

I'm a do it myselfer...so I'll be slowly gathering the parts and lacing them up myself. It's really not that difficult...with a little patience and time...

Yep, that's what they are.  You guys won't be sorry that you went with Woody's.  I kept my stock wheels and tires for dual sporting, and run the the Exels and Avons on the street.  This bike is so much fun on the street with these tires. Every corner you come to you want to drag a knee!
