Lots of problems with my 2006 K1200R

I have had one problem after another, transmission, ABS, Servo Brakes, brake sweak(harmonic), Brake failure(three times, no crashes), will not start, just to name a few.  Spent the last 8 months in the BMWNA Customer Service Loop. They say it is all just unfortunate and cant beleive all these things are happening and have tried to convince me that some have not.  Has anyone else had any of these problems?  I love the bike but there is always something wrong with it. HELP!!!

Ya'll got any "Lemon Laws" down there ???

We have noticed a few exceptional problem bikes that seem to have to be pushed to the next higher level.

And usually with much grief do eventually get relief, so keep a running commentary HERE of your attempts to get things right. As long as you respectfully discuss your problems and record them here, there is not much that can hurt except to high light your problems and maybe get some good advice and maybe shame the wrong doer in to doing the right thing.

Why would any one want to spend quite a bit more for a bike that is supposed to be a step above better ?

What Dealer responces have been attempted??

You might as well start at the beginning and let us hear the whole story!

I'd be interested......

And I'm sure other that had or have would be interested too !!...

I'm sure there are some folks that would be interested, but I'm not one of them.

Of course I can just ignore the post... sort of like trying to look the other way when a train wreck is happening.

I guess that if the bike is as lousy as you've experienced, my solution would be to trade it.  Life's too short.  If you've already spent a lot of time trying to get this sorted out and are not making good progress, cut your losses.

These sorts of stories show up from time to time.  I'm sympathetic to the guys who are suffering.  Been there with other marques.

My limited experience with BMW has been positive.  My fairly extensive experience with motorcycles in general suggests that, like with cell phone companies, if you deal with one marque long enough, eventually there will be something that gives you heartburn.

I hope you get some resolution from BMW.... but you can get resolution on your own too by trading the bike.

I've got an 06 K1200R with 6500 miles... have had only one issue that was fixed while I waited..... sorry for your troubles....and good luck getting them resolved.

I'm sure you've got all the issues you mentioned documented at the dealership....

My instinct would be to put it in documented, letter form and shoot it up the food chain.....

But, if it's not worth the trouble and headache (and only you can decide that)....like someone said,  trade and move on.....

I had similar problems with an '01 GMC 2500HD. They replaced the transmission twice in the first 10k miles. The engine always knocked loudly and it burned a quart of oil every 1000 miles. I tried to have GM buy it back under the CA "lemon law" and the moderator suggested I accept a 5 year/100k mile warrenty. I traded it in when it was 2 years old with 40k miles. The last 30k of those miles (after the second trans) were trouble free except for the knock and oil consumption. But I had a bad attitude towards the truck and spent a year and a half with no confidence in it. I traded it for a Ford 3 years and 60k miles before I normally would have bought a new one. Been glad I did ever since.

What I'm getting at is this; If they stood behind it now would you have confidence in it and enjoy the bike? If not you've already kept it too long.

Sell the BMW and buy a Harley. I haven't had any problems with my 2005 HD.

I thought I responded to this post a while ago but do not see my response here - may have been deleted for some reason.

Anyway, I have a '06 K1200R and have not had any real problems with the bike. Did have some transmission issues that I learned to manage. I wondered if you have been to any of the model specific message boards out there. Most problems you describe have been experinced by others, and lots of good advise and solutions can be found.

If all else fails, you can always sue with or without a lemon law - sue them in New York State where they are headquartered. Most companies that are sued are usually open to settle right away to avoid costly litigation.

Ditto:  zero issues after 80K miles on numerous HDs.  2002 - 2007.  While the "evil grin factor" has not been high with the HDs, reliability has been superb.

laissez le bon temps rouler on whatever marque you choose.

Hi, we do not delete posts as a rule.  if any editing or deletion may take place, a comment from me in bold/red would clarify the edition.  I haven't made any moderator correction to the posts for over a year. S

I got to ride one Sunday! I was walking past the neighborhood bar I used to spend all my free time at a few years ago, and there was a group of 6-7 scooters in front with riders saddling up and getting ready to go. There was an mp3 in the group and I was looking at it when the rider said "Hi Kip". It was Mike, my favorite bartender from back in the day. Mike, who is just now approaching 40, spent 2 years traveling with The Greatful Dead (right up till Jerry died).

I told him I liked his scoot and my wife had been thinking about getting one of them. So he asked me if I wonted to ride it! It was a hoot! I had completely forgotten how much fun can be had with 250 cc. I rode without a helmet for the first time in 25 years, cuz they're not required for anything with 3 wheels here in CA. I only rode in my neighborhood and never got over 30 mph, but I was amazed at how much it corners like a 2-wheeler, only more stable. You could lean pretty hard and it stays planted.
