Bug Splats From a Road Trip

I'm not sure about ride reports. I really don't know what they're

supposed to be... guided tour... memoir...  something to go over when

i'm riding a rocking chair instead of a scooter. Seems like all the really

important stuff doesn't translate well to the page. So with that in mind here are

a few bug splats from a trip well taken.

* Destination: Halifax to Toronto and return

* Distance covered 4832 kilometers.

* Actual time riding... 6 days

* Days spent not riding : 4. Two in Toronto... Two on the road waiting for a Buell to be fixed.

* Travel Companion: Jonny D. Fine friend... solid rider... crappy bike.

* Provices and States visited: Nova scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, New York, Vermont,

New Hampshire,  Maine.

* Best part of the trip... the part where the 2 wheels were in motion... everything else came second.

* Top speed... 180 KPH... Adirondacks.

* Wettest we got... Just south of Edmundston New Brunswick. Looked like this.

Best place we stayed following a severe rain storm that served

fine single malt whiskey and had Jacuzzies in the bathrooms: Castle Inn... Perth Andover New Brunswick.

Looked like this:

Best Motel we stayed @ that featured Adult movies and marble Mirrored walls:

The Carnaval... Quebec City ... Looked Like this.

Best Portrait of a man wearing pajamas (who the heck brings pajamas

on a motorcycle trip? ) after a night  of adult movies and marble mirrors... this one.

Best Bar @ which to spend a day in a town called Pohenegamook while waiting for the local

Yamaha dealer to determine what is wrong with your Buell Ully after retrieving it from the

roadside 6 miles out of town... this one.

Best Portarait of a man calling a Harley Dealer several hundred miles away from a small

town called Pohenegamook because he knew his Buell was going to crap out on

him again... this one of Jonny D.

Best shot of a man shooting his Buell... this one.

Saddest moment of the trip... seeing a sign warning of moose for the next 3Km.

2 Km.  Later seeing a cow moose sitting, legs folded on the road  having just been struck

by a mini van. Mini Van was beat up bad... driver was unscathed and on his cell calling for

assistance.

Best shot of the  Harley Davison  that most resembles Keith Richards... this one.

It was one of 4 elaborately painted bikes built as a tribute to the Rolling Stones

and was part of a small museum where we spent an entire day waiting for a certain

Buell Ully  to be repaired.  The cause of the problem was finally determined to be a loose

connection between two wires. It was fixed and never gave Jon another problem.

Best Ferry Ride... Plattsburgh New York to Burlington Vermont: Cruising time: 12 minutes

Best Shot of a General Store sign owned by a person named Norman... this one.

Best Looking 650 CC displacement Motorcycle on this trip... this one.

 The Final Splat

It was a fine 10 days spent in the company of good friends and family.

There was no shortage of laughter.

On the days that we rode, we averaged close to 500 miles. You see a lot from

the saddle when you do that kind of mileage and miss a whole lot at the same time.

Most of what we saw was beautiful and uplifting. The trip through parts of the

Adirondacks was depressing. It looked like a part of America where dreams went to die.

If oil gets to $200 a barrel, we'll see more places like it.

The Versys performed flawlessly. It has an absolutely wonderful motor and

great agility but it needs a harder saddle big time.

As mentioned at the beginning , this was a riding trip more that a sightseeing adventure.

In this regard, it was a huge success.

I feel blessed for having had the opportunity to take it.

Ha, the only requisite for a ride report is that it inspire and etertain your audience.

Mission accomplished!

Looks like a fabulous trip, Terry. Mac and I are hoping to pull off a week-long tour at the end of the month. I'll show her this thread for inspiration.

That was a fine report.  Very good reading.  Was your riding companion John the same guy I met at Barbers?  I'm sure I've met him before.  Bummer about the problems he had, that screws up a ride.

"who the heck brings pajamas on a motorcycle trip?"

Well . . . I do.

It's just that when I'm in a hotel room with you, I'm compelled for some reason to sleep naked.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Fantastic joy at your joy and great relief that you made it safely home.

Amen to that.... and a big thumbs up to the motorcycle gods that make it possible.... I have no idea what that means, but it sounded good when it rolled off my tongue... nerd
