Thomas -- I know you were planning for a July kick-off. Are you ready? Gear packed? Fresh oil? Plenty of Advil for those Iron-butt days? If you get the chance, post a planned route so we can follow your trail.
If you end up near Cheyenne, give me a shout: maybe I can ride a few miles with y'all or just make you dinner. Happy trails and safe riding! -- Jack

Hey Jack, all is still on. Holger and I have re-packed our gear about three times. Little by little I eliminate stuff to keep it light . Next week its one more oil- and rear tire change and of we go on July 18th 6:00am. Right now its getting everything arranged at work before we blast off.
For the time being, it looks like we will make it through Cheyenne. We don't have reservations, execpt in Fairbanks, Deadhorse (Prudhoe Bay) and Coldfoot. We plan on making it on our first day somewhere between St. Louis and KC and the second day between Cheyenne and Salt Lake City... We'll see if our "rear-ends" keep up with the desire to make miles... I'll keep y ('all) posted what we do, since I'll have to take my notebook along anyway...

First glitch today! Holger took his 2002 R1150GS to the dealer for a final look over and fluid change. The diagnosis: new final drive... . Luckily, the dealership computer showed 5 final drives in the country. Order was placed. His FD should be in town on Wednesday and installed a day later. Hey Mike/JC, what is a good BMW dealership in your neck of the woods, where we can go to on July 19th in the AM (Saturday) to get the initial FD oil change done? Anyone you can recommend to call ahead and make reservations...? Any help is appreciated.

If all goes as planned, we'll arrive late in KC, look for a place to stay and meet you and Mike for Breakfast on Saturday morning, while the 1150GS undergoes the FD oil change... what do you think? Holger will call the dealership on Tuesday (I guess they're closed on Mondays) to firm up the appointment. Thanx again, Thomas

Great looking route! Looks like a heck of a trip. Sorry to hear about the final drive glitch--hopefully that gets the mechanical issues out of the way for the rest of the trip. You have my number, give me a call if you do end up near Cheyenne and I'll try to ride a few miles with you. (I re-jetted your KTM today, so she's ready to roll. ) Jack

However, more than likely, we will stay somewhere inbetween St. Louis and KC. We would make it in to town first thing in the morning, drop the 1150GS off and go for breakfast... are you and JC free?

I'm re-packing my stuff for the Alaska trip for the fourth time and I was able to shed another 2 lb. of stuff (mostly clothing). Actually, I may have some spare room in my panniers. Not sure if Holger still wants to share rooms with me after a week or so...

Thomas, yes, definitely available for breakfast.... I'll cancel the rooms (they were down to three with a large group staying over so I thought it best to have them held till I heard from you). I'm down to one bike so no "loaner" at my house (I hate that!)... but I can pick up everyone in the Element for the breakfast trek if you like, and unless you have a KC favorite, I have very cool Diner in mind (not the Trolley - it closed temporarily) for breakfast.

Hey Thomas... Damn! Wish you could have made it to KC by Friday night..... I'd comp you a couple of tickets to Anything Goes (Cole Porter musical). Opening night is Thursday night the 17th. I'm got two parts... the Bishop that gets thrown off the ship in the first ten minutes of the play.... and the ship Captain that hangs around the whole voyage! http://www.bellroadbarn.com/
