Hi all

I have just purchased a new R1200RT and bought an Autocom to go with it.  I was hoping someone might have some sugestions were to mount the control box.  Any sugestions would be helpfull.  Any advice as to where not to mount it would be good also.   I dont get to pick the bike up intill next week so I have some time to figure it out yet.

Thanks

I have an autocom on my CLC and it is mounted in my sidecase under the radio.  This may not be an option since you can take your cases off much easier and more often.  But maybe near your radio or under the seat.  Find a place sheltered from the elements as much as possible.  Good luck.  Kevin

I mounted mine in the compartment below the luggage rack. There is a vertical surface at the rear which I mounted hook and loop on. I then placed the other portion of the hook and loop on the Autocom. The unit mounts vertical and does not take up any space in my tool compartment at all. I planned the wiring routes, and then taped/strapped the Autocom wires neatly together and ran down the side of the frame, wire tied. I left enought of the harness free at the rear so that I may demount the Autocom and access anything in the rear compartment (accessory outlet connectors, etc.) Cannot tell from factory harnesses. Very neat and tidy.

Mounted it first in my wife's jacket pocket. Then came the tank bag... it works pretty well for right now. Probably will try to find a place under the seat before long and hardwire it for convenience... on our R1100R. On our airhead we can just put it in our pocket as we don't ride it as often.

Hi i'm Dan, I too have a 1200RT but i'm not familar with the autocom.  I use a starcom system and located it underneath my seat.  At this time i only operate my radar and GPS off of the system.

I hope this helps you out.

Just hope you have better luck with the end results than we've had! Please let us know!

Still using it experimentaly all the way around. Mounting wise: Tried wife's pocket, acceptable but left room for improvement, and she got tired of fumbling w/ VOX.  Tried tank bag, much better, but extra task for driver to fumble w/ VOX.  note: As your travel/wind directions or speed changes, so do the wind noises & you must adjust the VOX (and maybe volume) accordingly. (especially a cross wind)

Made a mock set up OFF the bike (12vt pwr supply in the house), results: Any sound input from any sorce of music, cassett player, any-type radio, cell ph.,etc. as well as intercom works FANTASTIC! On the bike: It's OK idling around town, but any speed above that makes you want to turn it off & throw it away!

Autocom: Forget about asking any ?'s online, if they do answser, they address another topic completely different from what you've asked about. Calls to a rep are treated similar (just go away & bother some other rep).

We ordered & received the wind cuffs for the mics and results so far indicate they do help, but so little that the unit still sits on the shelf because it's such a hassle to use it. Havn't tried full face helmets & would hate to invest in that  too yet, so Please let us know how yours turns out!

I might also mention that back ON the bike (as opposed to mock kitchen table set up) a transistor radio is useless because of the background engine ignition noise eventhough this RT has the "radio prep" package. (Antenna, wiring harness, etc., but an empty cubby hole where a factory radio would mount if it had one.)
