I was reading the GPS thread and someone (TREX???) mentioned their Arai XD.  On my Shoei I've attached a SuperVisor to the shield.  I'm thinking about the Arai XD because I can keep the shield up & still have the benefit of a visor (which I'm now addicted to).  Per Arai's info (required for liability reasons no doubt)......"The peak/visor supplied is not suitable for high-speed use........."  as in a quick lane-check?

Soooooo.....I'm interested to know if anyone has had an issue with this particular helmet on a freeway or highway.  I remember a few years ago wearing one of my strictly "off-road" helmets on the street at 50-60 mph and earning a mild whiplash while doing a quick "lane-check".

All feed-back is welcome.    Thanks,  Dave

No issue with my Arai XD on any of the bikes I have (had) 1200GS, F650, KTM 950. All bikes have some sort of windshield though. The only issue with the Arai is noise...

Dave,

Since you wear Shoei, you might want to

consider the Shoei Hornet

I've liked the RF1000.....it's been a good friend.  I tried the fit of the Arai XD a few days ago and it felt great: lighter, better periferal vision, more venting, and the visor beats the snot out of the "Super Visor" I've had on all my Shoei shields.

I asked the manager of the BMW dealership if I could test ride the Arai next week (when I finally get my arm out of the sling from surgery).  It may sound funny but I want to get on the freeway for 5 or 10 miles to get a feel for the buffeting at 70 - 80 mph (SoCal, ya know?  It takes about 40 miles of freeway here to get to the nearest hills/dirt).  He said "maybe, but bring your bike in and I'll let you know" thinkingconfused  Go figure.....maybe there's a "test" or something my bike & I have to "pass".

I think you might be right about the two brands (at least the XD vs. the Hornet).....the Arai is my preference at this point, at least until I find out if all those little "lane checks" at freeway speeds result in repeated whiplash.         ""Film At 11:00""
