F800ST Windshield question

I have an F800ST.  When I bought it, it was a store demo and it came with a Ztechnics V-Stream windshield.  This is supposed to be a great touring windshield, and it does an impresive job of creating an air pocket around my midsection.   But for me, the windshield just isn't quite right.   I'm 6'3" tall, and the V-Stream tends to funnel ALL of the wind right into my face.

I live near the insect-heavy Cache River wetlands in Southern Illinois, and when I ride in that area late at night, I literally had to pull over ever 5 minutes to wipe the dead bugs from my helmet visor.     I contacted my dealer for options.   They had a windshield that came off of an F800S.  It's the stock F800S windsheld.  I made an even trade with them for this windshield.

The difference is like night and day.   For the first time since owning the bike, I can hear the engine at highway speeds.   Before, I only heard the sound of rushing wind.   The bug problem is nearly solved too.

This shield looks a bit funny to me though.   It almost looks too low for the ST's high handlebars.

The BMW gear website shows a high and a low windshield option for the F800ST.   I don't want the high option for fear that I might have the same problem with it as I did the V-Stream windshield.   I want to know if the low windshield that is being sold for the ST is the same thing that I have now or is the low ST windshield higher than the stock S windshield.

thanks in advance

Hi:

I don't have the answer to your question, but you may have better luck with it on f800riders.org - the forum dedicated to F800 discussion.  I find this board great for touring, adventure, and R and GS bikes in general, but not much F series talk here.  I spend a lot of time at the other site for that reason.  They are both great in their own way.

Good luck and enjoy your ST!

I had issues with windscreens for my 2005 Dakar and tried 3 or 4 different styles/makes before I found the perfect w/s (for myself, at least).  You might try contacting BMW of Santa Cruz (CA) @ (866) 268-9311 / www.bmwsantacruz

Jason, in the parts dept., was extremely helpful & turned me on to the Cee-Baily Company (which I hadn't ever come across in all the researching I had done).  I've never regreted  it.  I just explained what I liked/disliked about the ones I had tried and within one week I'd mounted the Cee-Baily on my bike.  Jason handled all the specs, ordering & delivery for me.  It's surely worth a look.  Good luck!
