Rallye 2 Pro/Santiago questions.

I'm currently using Olympia gear, an AST jacket and Ranger pants.  I was thinking about getting a pair of mesh Olympia pants for warmer weather, but have started considering the Rallye 2 Pro as a do it all alternative.  I like the superior armor, and the venting.

My quandary is that I don't like the idea of the waterproof liner being inside and a shell that will get wet and heavy, and wick heat away when wet.  I could see using something like a BMW rain jacket over the Rallye 2.  The Santiago doesn't come with the liner, so would make more sense for using a rain overcoat, but it doesn't sound like it vents as well as the Rallye?  The armor in the Santiago also sounds less ideal than the Rallye, especially the back protection.

I like to use a Gerbings heated liner.  Should I just spend the extra money for the Rallye to get the good venting, get a rain overcoat, and use the Gerbings instead of the BMW liner in cooler weather?  Paying for the Gortex liner and not using it seems wasteful, but the Rallye seems superior to the other choices available.

I also have a fitting question.  I am 6', 31" inseam.  I have a 35" waist, but a 48" chest.  To get a jacket large enough in the chest area requires a jacket for a much larger waist.  Is there enough adjustment in the waist area of the jacket for this difference?  Anyone of similar proportions have any advice or thoughts?  I suppose an advantage of a bit bigger jacket would be the ability to easily fit my Gerbings, maybe even under the standard liner?  My Olympia AST is an XL and fits well.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.  When I get read to buy I'll ride to a dealer, but the closest one that carries BMW apparel is a ways away.

My experience's been with the Rally 2 Suit--an earlier version. It's been a great outfit! But I'd take a serious look around at what's currently available before purchasing something new again.

One additional think to consider with the RP2 and Gerbings. The Gortex liner will probably have to be in there in order to prevent heat loss from wind penetration. The added layering can impede movement a little.

I'd suggest including the ComfortShell Suits in your search. They are waterproof without a liner and the phase-change material is still very breathable. Cost is a little higher, but you may truly have a "one suit does it all" solution.

I ended up ordering a Rallye 2 Pro jacket and pants yesterday.  I got a great deal from San Diego BMW, who was very helpful with sizing as well.  Looking forward to getting it.  Thanks for the help.

Hey Jeff, good to see you becoming more active over here wink! There is a bunch of folks wanting to go to Alaska next year. I know YOU can provide the inside scoop!

By the way, I'm on my second Rallye 2 Pro suit. Good decision!

Hey Trex, let me know if I can answer any Alaska questions, I'm happy to help out.

I'm really liking the Rallye 2 Pro.  I took a ride in the 80's today and it was much cooler than my Olympia stuff was.
