Hector? Anyone? Ferris? Does anyone know a good repair shop on the north side of Chicago for my daughter to have her Honda Rebel looked at? The thing has had issues with the charging system and she needs to have it looked at. We bought the thing when it was a year old and the battery had already been replaced. SHe had dead battery issues from the get go but the dealership here found nothing wrong when we had them look at it a year or two ago. When I've checked it, the charge rate was around 14.5. I kept it on the tender a lot when it sat in my garage, but when I hauled it down to Chicago earlier this year, she had to replace the battery, it wouldn't take a charge anymore. Now after a summer of riding and the one longesh trip, the battery is dying again. Fortunatly, the thing bump starts easily and seems to have enough juice to run, but I'd like to have someone do a thorough diagnostic on it to figure out what is going on without having it cost her an arm an a leg. THanks.

How far north? There is a Honda dealer in Libertyville. They have been there a long time. As for your problem, sounds like the diode regulator may be passing too much voltage at 14.5 VDC. If so, batteries cook rather quickly.

Thanks for the tip. I would have thought the tech that looked at it here in Minnesota would have caught that, but maybe it is sporadic. As to her location, she is in the city proper, not too far from the mega-store on Touhy, but I'm afraid they'd skin her alive there. I know they were talking about a buck and a half to install a battery and she ended up paying something like $60 at a battery shop. I was hoping that she could find an indy repair shop that made a living taking care of people's bikes rather than a dealer who looks at service as a necessary evil and prices accordingly.
