Yesterday I had a weird experience with my 2007 R1200R. I had already ridden 300 miles and was traveling at about 40 MPH when it totally shut down, like I turned off the key. Tried to jump start it, but only got clicks in the starter motor. The battery (original stock) was totally dead thus the fuel injectors, fuel pump wouldn’t work. Called BMW’s Roadside Assistance who called a tow and it was taken to a motorcycle shop about 50 miles away. I’ll find out Monday what the deal is. The bike is completely stock with no add-ons and has 16K miles. Any of you had a battery issues or an alternator that failed to charge the battery?

That's strange that it died while you were riding it. I have an 08 R1200R. The battery died with about 2K on the odo. There have been several reports of sudden battery death on the R1200R board. Had mine towed to a dealer and the battery replaced. Jump starting it doesn't work (as was explained to me by the dealer) as something inside the batterly suddenly goes bad not allowing current to pass through.

Our 650GS will act very, very strange when the battery is close to dying. Speedo flips out, engine won't idle. Never had a low battery cause the symptoms you describe in a boxer. C

Yeah, that's right, jump start didn't work-----just clicks from the starter motor. My BMW dealer will replace the battery 100% and they're $190.00 now! Two year warranty. vv

Just picked up my R1200R back from the dealer, had a dead battery. was replaced under warranty. I had ridden the bike a week before, no problem. Then I went to start and nothing, not a sound, not a light. No, I had not left the key in it. Had 2V left at the battery terminals, and would not recharge. The bike is 20 month old and has 5,300 miles. The battery is of the AGM type, supposed to be the latest and greatest but I think there may be a few faulty ones out there... Had no trouble getting the dealer to replace it at no cost to me, actually I just left the bike with them, they called me back and told me it would be a warranty deal.
