I just took my K1200GT in for the 18K service. BMW replaced the key ring under warrentee for preventative maintance. With all the problems I heard about on this sight, I am glad they did it even though the bike worked fine. Way to go BMW! What do all think about that?

It is great, but I wish they'd consider final drive issues (like at least just extend the final drive warranty to say 5 year/50k). Now, and you can slap me for saying this next time you see me, the EWS rings were a faulty batch. If yours worked for 18k, it was likely to never fail. Now you'll have some unrelated failure do to the service (like the wires come loose, or the screws fall out, or....). Like I said, you can slap me or place your slapping order with Nut who will see me at Barber in a few weeks! Robo

The 463 ring originally equipped on my '07 R12GSA actually did fail at 1026 kms. It was replaced by the newer 247 iteration but I postponed its actual mounting on the triple tree to a more convenient time. I now have it as a jury rigged "field setup" sitting just alongside the defective original ring. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this last ring series is the fix but will feel more comfortable carrying a spare anyway.
