Any opinions or information on whether Zega cases are a better solution for long distance touring and everyday riding than Vario cases? For the R1200GS

You say, “as described in the manual”. What does it say in the manual? Does your manual refer to a tool for performing the adjustment? If so, return to the dealer and tell him, “I’m missing my tool. Give me one off another new BMW motorcycle”. My GS tool kit (2001 model) has this tool for this very adjustment. I am not familiar with your year model tool kit contents. --------------------------------- Dennis

Look in your tool bag for a wrench about 6" long with a big "G" on the end. The tab on the G engages the notches on the front shock and gives you the leverage to turn it to a higher or lower preload setting. Just did my R12GS a couple of notches before I went to Leakey to scare myself. Took all of 2 minutes. I had this same tool on Hondas in the 70's, hardly high tech but it should be there.
