It’s been a while since I have done a cross-country road trip, probably since the Grateful Dead were still together. I certainly have never done a round trip cross-country trip, not in the same week, and with a 200 mile rally race in the middle. It was an amazing adventure and worth the drive to race on the closed winding dirt and gravel roads of Mt Hoods at speeds up to 95 mph. I wrecked twice and ended up coming in 15th out of 35 bikes. On the last stage which was a night I caught the person in front of me and was blinded by their dust causing me to misjudge a turn and crash. I flew about 50 feet off my bike and landed a foot from a pond. After I shook it off and assessed the damage I ran back to my bike picked it up and finished the stage. The highlight of the trip was on the ride home when Dave and I camped North of Moab, UT and rode the sand dunes of Canyonlands National Park. I plan to post some video of the adventure as soon as I have time.
