Jason, you are nuts. WOW on that training regimen. I think you have the right approach; conditioning will go a long way towards preserving your attitude at the end of a hard day. If you get worn out, you start doing dumb stuff and then you get mad. BTDT. But you know all about that.
As for riding all of that rocky crap on the PD, don't go trashing 'my' motor now, hear? :)
Chris is trying to talk me into PB and Shen500. Hopefully I've missed the deadlines.

Not really, because the cam still has to overcome the valve springs. Use 5th.

Well, I just have a good picture in mind of what I would look at. Wiggle the crank, watch the cam sprockets and chains. Wiggle them, watch the crank. There is some slop between all of these parts so you'll be able to get a better idea of what is stopping what from turning.
Pull the plugs to make all of this easier. If you roll the bike or use the wheel to turn the crank, use 5th gear.

There's no "this is what usually happens" situation for this, and all I have to go on is your description of what you think you are observing. I think you're just going to have to investigate a bit more. Pulling the starter was a good idea. At this point I'd pull the valve covers off and watch the timing chain as you try to turn the motor. Try to turn it (gently!) with the cam sprocket bolt, each way. You've not going to hurt anything turning it gently back...

Here's a thread on ADVRider, mostly about some friends, most of whom were staying at our place for the event.
I think the event went over very well, and a lot of people got to try some offroad stuff that they otherwise would not have the opportunity for. Ironically, the least experienced riders are the ones who benefit from these events the most, whereas the most experienced are the ones who make a point to attend each one.
