ABOUT ME
Just another 35-year BMW fan here, located across the Hudson River from Albany, NY. Started riding in 92 on a rehabbed 74 R90/6 that was all S-ed up with bikini fairing etc. (see pics). Graduated to a new 93 Guzzi 1000 SP III, (aka “My BMW with Garlic”) that was recently sold for an astounding 55% of purchase price. And now, I am on this K12 GT, bought for a big round-numbered birthday. Off-season, I am driving my 04 545i Sport 6-spd; have been driving high-performance Sport 5s since 87 when they were introduced. Before that, BMWs back to 1971 and 2002s, then 320s, etc. Also, I’m fond of German cameras (Leica, Rollei, etc.) skis (Volkl) etc. I trust the engineering and construction. RWH

02/10/07 - Relying on XPLOR for Winter Jollies
I'm not a blogging type, but I do enjoy "observing" scenes, so I guess this is an appropriate spot to express my opinion. So here, I jot a couple of thoughts on XPLOR--at least my experience to date. It's been about 3 months since I joined (while stil ... Read more
11/12/06 - Breaking It In; Last Day of Season?
Hi All, You may recall several years ago, BMW using as their signature ad, a twilight photo, with the (LT?) dash all aglow in red, (stereo too) and the two profiles of a couple headed home. I always thought it kinda goofy (why promote going home?), but fig ... Read more

11/10/08 - Re: Threw My Leg Over a Guzzi Norge, Yesterday;
Well, since I recall starting this thread nearly a year ago, I too was surprised to see it revitalized. I'm sorry to hear the griping about the Norge. My 93 1000 SP III (Norge predecessor) was great after we got mis-welded swing arm replaced at the very start. 13 years later, it brought me 55% of what I paid for it.
The only thing new I have to add is that a friend at work just bought a Guzzi Breva as a first bike. She predicated that on my experien...
04/22/08 - So they joined 'em; now they have to beat 'em
What's the point? Chain drive of a Jap engine design and conventional fork suspension spells capitulation to me..and I suspect to their engineering/marketing types, too. Strange strategy.

04/03/08 - Message Server Burp Overnight?
This morning I was greeted with about 8 e-mail notifications that I had a new messsges waiting for me on Xplor. I sigined in, wondering what could have prompted such a flurry of messages, only to find that there were NO NEW messges. Seems like one particular correspondent's messages were relayed as new, but in fact were the same, already read/replied-to notes from over the winter.
No big deal, but wanted to note all the false alarm email notifications.

Hi my name is Mark and I'm from the Albany New York area. Just purchased my first BMW this past weekend a 2005 K1200S. I have been riding off and on since college which was about 12 years ago. I just started riding again last summer after a long hiatus and was hooked. I figured though if I was going to be serious about it I needed to purchase something newer and reliable. Unfortunately its the beginning of winter in upsta...
01/07/08 - Re: Cycle World Motorcycle Show / NYC
Hi Tom,
Thanks for the confirmed expectations. I gave up on that venue several years ago, and it wasn't just the cost and the boredom. From Albany, we used to sign on with some local loosely Harley group, and our band of BMW guys weren't well welcomed. Pair that with a 6 am departure from a frozen shopping center lot...and a forced-feeding stop at some Newburgh diner on the way home...and well, you get the picture.
On the up side, I set my ...
