I’m a 57 year old motorcycle enthusiast who discovered dirt riding at age 50. I ride a lot in the Jersey Pine Barrens.

11/04/07 - Meteor Dual Sport Next weekend Nov 11 - 12
Anyone on this forum riding the Meteor dual sport in the pine barrens in NJ next weekend? It's usually a good mix of trail, sandroads and single track, with go-arounds for big bikes if you don't like tight single track.
If you've got knobbies on your bike, you'll have a lot of fun. I wouldn't try it with trailwings, unless you're a really good sand rider.

Well, I don't have the same bike, but I am available to ride in the Pine Barrens most weekdays if anyone wants some company. And I know the woods pretty well.

Some seat time on a lighter bike, with good knobbies, on sandy trails will help a lot when you get back on the GS. If you can borrow a decent dual sport for a day and go ride some sand your skills should improve a lot.
The other guys in this thread have pretty much said it all. A couple of additional points:
1. When starting from rest in sand, try starting in second gear and slipping the clutch to get moving. You won't spin up the rear nearly as much, and you'll ...
