I ride an '05 ST. I've had it for about nine months and love it. I'm only coming up on 6,000 miles this week, so I'm not a long-term rider. I've never ridden a GS, so I can't make a comparsion. I'm 5'7" with a 29" inseam. I have no ergonomic issues with it at all. The stock seat is not comfortable. The low seat option while not outstanding is easier on one's butt after a 100 miles. The ST handles well and will hustle when you want it to....

If you're not already familiar with them, check http://www.bmwbmw.org/bmwforums. It's a BMW riders' club in the Baltimore and DC area. Folks are always posting rides in and around your area.

I'm not a member, but they are somewhat local to your area. I'm in Littlestown (near Gettysburg), but work in downtown Harrisburg. I do most of my riding in MD, although I do get to Harrisburg quite often.
