I found out about the final drive failure the hard way - mine failed in early June, six months and 2500 kms after warranty (52,500 kms on the bike - 2004 R1150RT). Shortly before, I had felt some vibration but attributed that to a bad valve job and/or road conditions. When it did go, it was quick. I was also lucky I didn't wipe out as gear oil dumped all over the right side of the tire, rim and brake. The dealer said it looked like a ball bearin...

Has anyone else been insulted by their BMW dealer when discussing trade-in values of their current bike.
I live in Ottawa, Canada and bought my R1150RT in November 2004. I put it on the road in March 2005 and now have 38,500 kms on it. When new, the bike listed for $22,300 Can. Two weeks ago I asked the local dealer about trading the bike on a new R1200RT. Although I have a Corbin Seat, BMW topcase, Throttlemeisters, Cee Bailey windshield and an alarm system...
