ABOUT ME

Year born: 1967

Environmental Engineer living and working in the greater Cleveland area. Steve has been clinically diagnosed as Obsessive/Compulsive which leads him to fixate on ideas and then pursue them without regard for matters of personal safety, cost or impact on family and friendships. Motorbiking is the activity of choice after a back injury ended a 13 year military career (how does that make sense anyways?).

Got into biking after watching “Long Way Round” and an eFriend told him racing bikes would be alot cooler than racing cars. Was going to get a F650GS, until he went to the MSF Beginners school and dropped a 250 half a dozen times. Decided a Suzuki DRZ-400S would be a better bike to start with but is saving money for a a G650X (or maybe that 450 prototype whenever it makes production).

Husqavarna is an option now as well… ;)

11/27/07 - Goals for 2008

So now that I've updated things, whats on the horizon for 2008? I have about three years left on the loan for my DRZ. I think what I learned from this year is that bigger is not always better and I reallly love the DRZ now that I got some good soft sid ... Read more

11/27/07 - When does anything ever go as planned anyways?

So most of what I planned for this year didn't turnout as I thought. I never did enter a race, never did as much riding off road as I thought and never did a mini adventure ride. But on the other hand I did put 1500+ miles on the bike commuting to work a ... Read more

08/01/08 - Re: Long Way Down at movie theaters for one night only.. Do

Great compilation movie!

I had got the book last Christmas (shipped over from England) and I was kinda dissapointed with it - spent very little time talking about the preparation for the trip and the narrative was more like Charley and Ewan dicated it for ghost writers while flying around in between promotions for the European release.  I was holding off on buying the episodes because of the book.  However the movie premiere was well edited with lots of stunning scenery, tons o...

There is a diesel KLR650 that is being used by the military currently.  It is modified by a contractor who puts in a diesel engine.  There are a couple articles about this bike in the April, 2008 issue of CycleWorld.

I also know a wastewater treatment plant operator in a small rural town here in Ohio who has contacts with all the local restaurants and collects their waste oil and converts it for use in his VW Jetta.  He has the contacts, the time, the technical ba...

I see a DRZ400SM and what looks like a DR350, right?  Interesting choice with putting knobbies on the SM, I like it.

They could have paid Robby Gordon to lead the way in a Trophy Truck with a .50 cal blazing away.

Maybe this way it will be clearer:

You gotta pay your dues first.  You want to be in the major leagues without ever having spent a day in the minors - who do you think you are?  You want to get the most out of the experience but you are not giving yourself the tools and skillz needed to go the distance.  Not saying it can't be done, it has been done but you have to understand what those people went through to make that kind of jump in such a short time.

Pay your d...
