ABOUT ME
Let’s see. I’m 40 years old, married since ‘93, and the father of two young boys. I’m a software developer by vocation as well as avocation.
I have been riding since 2001, ever since those wicked BMW people lured me with the (then-brand new) F650GS. It’s NOT my fault, the bike was in the lobby and they MADE me walk past it every day.
11/06/07 - Tire change, and a surprise
So I got a new set of tires for my 650GS last week, and on Sunday I set out to install them. What a major pain it was breaking the bead on the rear! I spent about three hours on just the back tire alone, and had to stop the job halfway through on the fro ... Read more
10/18/07 - Had to delete a ride
155 comments on it, and if I tried to look at it, I got redirected to some page about spam-free guestbooks. So the ride 'Ridgewood to BMW WLHQ' is now gone. I guess that's OK, it was a short ride I know well, but I wonder if any of the comments were ac ... Read more
07/20/07 - New toys to play with!
This was a good week... Well, maybe not for my finances, but I've got a couple of cool new farkles. First up, I've got some Optilux driving lights I picked up on the cheap (20 bucks). I plan to fab up an aluminum bracket, and probably hang it from the ... Read more

[quote user='Jstoddard']Today Lisa (AKA Watergoddess) made my appointments with the public health nurse to update my immunizations. What a pain in the a*&. I am glad she did it for me

Here's the poop.
We use countersteering to initiate lean angle changes, which causes the bike to turn.
But once the turn is initiated, you aren't really providing any further steering inputs, just letting the handlebars follow whatever natural track the tire takes. This will be in the direction you're moving. That's the natural path that the front wheel will follow. Do *not* try to 'correct' this, or to initiate it ...
09/02/08 - Re: 2 Ride The World Presentation at Bob's BMW
If you have a chance, I say go see these two. Simon and Lisa put on a good show, their well-travelled bikes are in place for you to inspect, you get to meet some other local riders, and a good time is had by all. I saw them recently at Cross Country BMW in NJ and it was well worth the trip.

08/21/08 - Re: NYC Police is getting tougher on motorcyclists...
My take:
I don't mind the concept of investigations including the publicly-available writings of those who are involved in the system. I just don't like the simple fact that when it comes to police and prosecutorial behavior, there are way too many instances of going all out to 'win' regardless of the actual guilt or innocence of the target. We all know that there are going to be many, many cases where they will glean what they can...

It seems to me that more video cameras are our only possible salvation.
Think about that bicyclist who got body-checked into the curb by a rogue bull police officer in NYC a few weeks ago. If it wasn't for the video evidence on Youtube, that poor guy would be in jail now awaiting trial on assault charges.
I'm thinking even phony helmet cams strapped to our lids would help a little bit.
When the people fear the government, we call it tyran...
