ABOUT ME

Started riding as a young Marine in Okinawa, Japan in 1963, and have been in love with the joy and adventure of motorcycles ever since. Have owned five motorcycles and have discovered my next ride. My wife, Ruth is a Ducati Monster rider. Recently I purchased an excellent 2001 BMW R1100SLA , so now we can ride together . My son Bryan, is a motorcycle classic rider from San Francisco. We will try to be good members if we can. John and, Ruth have recently moved to San Antonio, Texas. Bryan stayed in San Francisco with his friends.

Have discovered that San Antonio is the most friendly rider to rider city, I have ever lived in. Nearly every rider has a wave from across the road stripes and seems interested in your mount and gear. Feels good to be a brother in Texas. You all come see us and enjoy our fine city with the famous hill country near by.

08/30/07 - Re: New bike centric safety program for 4 wheel drivers

A good idea for reducing motorcycle crashes with other vehicles.  At a boy to the Foundation: let's all keep improving our riding and defensive movement skills.  Thank for post.

2.  Ferry folks were great and knew how to secure bikes .

3.  Must see:

Anchorage, Denali National Park, Ferry from Valdez to Whittier make your reservations several

Dear 140 MPH:

Track Days are the best place to tiwist and blast away.  Our national tracks are great places to test your ride and mprove your riding skills in an environment that  is safer for you and the other drivers that do not expect a 140 mph missle to come down the pike.  Go to Google and find a track near you and go have a thrill that will last several hours not just a few minutes.   Clearly you are a responsibel rider that is inter...

07/25/07 - Re: Book review(s)

Madhatter:

You are off to a good start with some good books.  I would recommend the following:

1.  Join the local BMW Rider's Club - and talk to experienced riders about learing how to ride better and safer.

2.  Pratice riding skills in a big parking lot (  stop, turns, changing lanes, etc.)  until you feel relaxed and more confident of yourself.

3.  Ride defensively.  Never expect the right away and always be prepared to get safely ...

06/02/07 - Re: Thoughts on Lane sharing

Lane Sharing 101:  99.9% of time never stop directly behind a line of traffic.  Now that I live in Texas, I stop and point to a filter hole between cars, so I can go if the follow guy might  hit me. Texas law says it is usually illegal for a motorcycle to filter. Is there anyone out there that would rather be hit?

No?  Ok, let's go on to:

Lane Sharing 102:  Your approach a stop light with a long line of double lane traffic.  ...
