Definately Hwy 50. I rode it last year to Bonneville, desolate but enough services along the way for food, gas etc. You will find the roads great, almost no traffic and I don't think I saw a single cop. Plenty of room to open it up and test the limits of your machine.

Smoke is pretty much gone now in N CA. I took off Wed last week, rode about 7 mountain passes in CA & NV and came back Sat night. Smoke was prevalent everywhere except over 8,000 ft., but it's all clear now!!! Come on up, the weather's clear and warm with fresh air.

Notice any differences?
Oh and BTW, it IS possible to scrape the pegs on these K bikes as I discovered much to my surprise last weekend.

I thought I responded to this post a while ago but do not see my response here - may have been deleted for some reason.
Anyway, I have a '06 K1200R and have not had any real problems with the bike. Did have some transmission issues that I learned to manage. I wondered if you have been to any of the model specific message boards out there. Most problems you describe have been experinced by others, and lots of good advise and solutions can be found.
If all else fails, ...
