ABOUT ME

Greetings, fellow Beemer enthusiast. Welcome to my profile page.

I’ve been riding in and around Birmingham, AL for the past 30+ years – nothing too special until recently, when I purchased my first BMW, a 2003 K1200GT. She’s a wonderful machine – fast, (relatively) agile, versitile, fun to ride. I’m planning to add to my stable with a few more selections from the BMW line in the future.

Though I currently make my living in the medical field, for many years I was an illustrator and graphic artist, working mostly for medical and scientific researchers at UAB (University of Alabama at Birmingham).

During our four years of professional school, my wife, Shelleigh, and I were blessed with both of our daughters, Kendall and Sidney, who continue to hold their place at the center of our lives. Beemers are great, but they can’t give you a good night hug.

Though my busy schedule has kept scarce lately, at times I’ve been rather active on the XPLOR Forum, where I’ve made many acquaintances, and even a few good friends. Several of them appear in my buddy list below.

Happy trails, y’all.

-Todd

The ride home

Actually the date of this ride was the end of September, 2006. The purpose was transporting my new-to-me K1200GT from her former home in south Florida to her new home in Birmingham Call me a wimp, but it was two weeks before I could feel the ring fi...

01/12/07 - Okay, okay, Pat. I give up already.

After a few loving nudges, I've decided to give in. My blog is now open for business. I've been reluctant to start this for one primary reason: I am all-seeing, all-powerful, and have a profound grasp of reality which escapes all but me. It's a huge bur ... Read more

Charlie, somehow I knew, you of all people, would completely understand.  If you weren't a dude I'd totally marry you.  Now if we could just snip out a little bit of your marvelous brain and splice it into Shelleigh's . . .

Mu-ha-ha-ha-haaaaaa!

That would be nice, Bob, but I have yet to successfully persuade her that she NEEDS a bike.  I have hopes that she'll eventually see the obvious wisdom in the simple premise that I should have as many motorcycles as I desire.  She's bright enough, but seems to be having difficulty with this concept for some reason.  I'm clu...

Perfect!  Just the sort of discussion and information I was craving when I started the thread.  Thanks to all for your input.  No doubt I'm not the only one with these questions.  I'm sure you've helped out others with your thoughtful replies.

Think me naive if you like, but I haven't felt this proud and patriotic in ages.  I've never been one to drink the Kool-Aid, either blue or red, without giving it a suspicious sniff first, but I cast my vote this time without any reservations whatsoever.  I've got nothing against a healthy dose of cynicism, but I genuinely feel sad for anyone who can't enjoy the pride that I think we Americans are all entitled to right now.

On an only slightly related t...

11/06/08 - F 650 GS vs. F 800 GS ?

I realize that there must already be tons of discussion on this topic, but I'm either too lazy or too dim to track down the relevant threads.

I'm puzzled by the stout price difference in these two bikes, considering they're now both based on the same powerplant, albeit detuned in the 650.  What about the gear and specs on the 800 make it worth the difference?  What would it take to boost the performance on the 650 to that of it's pricier brother?
