01/25/08 - Re: New suit - BMW or Aerostich??
If I am going to make a long trip and want to keep the gear to a minimum, I believe that I would be happy with my BMW Comfort Shell Suit. It is waterproof, it breathes, the jacket has vents, etc. I have been pleasantly surprised with it. I like the Summer 2 Pants better, but they aren't quite waterproof. I have tried the Airflow mesh jackets, mesh pants, etc., too, but have found that the Comfort Shell suit is more than up to the task IF YOU WEAR THE P...

Hey VanMan. I notice that you are from Rapid City. My parents and several siblings still live there (Hengen is the family name). I had my BMW out there last summer, and plan to make the BMW rally in Gillette in July. See you there?
Speaking of GPS - I absolutely love it. I used a makeshift setup for the first year, but am having the Navigator III mounted on my 07 RT even as I type. Wonderful to find your way around and through strange hills i...

Jack,
I ordered Wunderlich bars, but Touratech sells what appears to be close to, but not exactly, the same thing. The difference is probably not worth considering. You can see a photo of them installed, with a description, at:

I picked up the Comfort Shell and pants this week and so far they perform very well. I rode for 200+ miles in sunny 86 to 88F in comfort. I had the two front and back vents open but did not feel a breeze. The sleeves have no vents, probably cuz these are hard to seal well, so I felt a little hot there. I didn't have long sleeve wicking shirt on, so that may help next time. The pants are comfortable but not as cool feeling, at speed as my BMW summer pants. That said the difference was sm...

I tried the vest for the first time last weekend, with a mesh jacket, and a vented jacket. Even with road temps of 103, I was cool to chilly where the vest contacted my body. Kind of makes me wish that I had bought the long-sleeve version. I will be using it often on my trip (starts in 6 days).
I LOVE to ride in WY. Great roads, little traffic, but it is HOT in the summer (not unlike SD, in that respect) except in the mountains, where you can get very cold, fas...
