Tuesday, August 26th, 9:32 p.m. Tomorrow morning, five men and one woman will board airliners bound for the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Each one eagerly anticipates the next phase of the GS Trophy competition. We all wish to be part of the team, yet there are only three places available. As much as we want this to be about us, it isn’t. It is about the sport we love and have enjoyed for most of our lives.

Motorcycles equal adventure, regardless of where they take us geographically. Even that first ride around the field or neighborhood took our breath away. When we next inhaled, the sweet taste of exhaust bore into our psyche like ambrosia. We were changed forever.

As one of the fortunate few still sweating the final cut, I doubt we are the best, nor the only ones capable of completing this assignment. We have simply woven our way through the selection process and been graced with a Bavarian blessing. We are here to serve those who promote dual sport and adventure motorcycling. We owe it to our friends to make the most of this opportunity, or to join them graciously should we not be chosen. Through the final three, this experience can be sampled, much like those exhaust fumes and engine sounds that started our journey so long ago. The chosen three owe it to the rest to give their all in return for the privilege and to bring home the GS Trophy!
