Barney Franks said yesterday that he thought there was prejudice against saving blue collar jobs. Of course the Republicans in the House did try to block the bailout of AIG too.
Maybe instead of using Henry David Thoreau as the starting point for this, it would be better to use one of his non-mooch colleagues, specifically Ralph Waldo Emerson. I'm thinking that his essay entitled Self Reliance would be a good starting point.

Thoreau was a totally self absorbed, stubborn, irresponsible mooch. He was the proverbial grasshopper, relying on the hard work and generousity of others for his personal survival.

I picked one of these up the other day, and I've ridden it 355 miles, even though we're having cold and rain here.
The bike's a hoot. It redefines street riding on super twisty roads. I would describe it as very forgiving, except that it never feels like forgiveness is needed. You just think about what you want to have happen, and it happens. Like magic.
I haven't had so much fun on a bike since the TL 125 came out.
