ABOUT ME

“If you’re not leanin’, you’re learnin’” At the average age of a typical Beemer owner, I am riding the best motorcycle I have ever ridden. Started riding 39 years ago on a 250 cc BSA one lunger, then a 305 Superhawk, then 350 and 450 twin Hondas. Recently sold my 2002 Honda 1100 VT (shadow) and settled on just my baby, the 2004 1150 RT. Mine is grey, the black one in many of my pictures is my brother’s a twin to mine. I am blessed with living near some of the best mountain roads in the US. Near the Smokies, the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, Blue Ridge as well as Suches GA, Highlands, NC and don’t forget southern KY, VA and WV. I love to ride on weekend trips and always seem to find a new road. Riding an RT allows me to pack for long trips and I love to go camping on it. Yet, when I hit the twisties, it becomes my best friend. 500 mile days, even on curves, is a blessing, not a hard day’s ride! My brother and I were fortunate to ride on a wonderful trip to Colorado and back during the summer of 2006 and hope to go back soon to catch up on the trips we had to skip on that first go ‘round.

10/26/08 - Re: New Turn Signal Switches

I agree with the new change for the masses. I also think BMW should do away with the electrically operator windeshield, since most other bikes don't have them, and that stupid switch is near my horn button, very confusing. And, oh yeah, heated grips, that nasty switch is hard to figure out as well, can't seem to get my right thumb on that one either and two postions on one switch?!?!?! While were changing things let's get rid of that silly small round button which start th...

Update

Just put on my new Metz Z-6's WOW!!!! I'm BAAACK !!!

It's like a new bike!! I didn't realize how scared I was with the Michelin Road Pilot's!! Never felt in the groove correctly when leaning, felt like a tire going down, etc. Glad they finally wore out. Got about 7,000 on the rear of the mIchelin (front still had a lot of life left) but the bike didn't handle NEARLY as well as with my good ole Metz.. (of course changed both front and rear) Can re...

05/06/08 - Re: 2002 R1150R top case - looking for ideas

I am not 100% certain, but I am certain that on the 03 and 04 models that the same top case which fits on the RT will fit on the R. the stock rear bracket should be the same and if so the standard rear top case will fit. I have an 04 RT and my top case fits an 03 R...Your local dealer should help, but you can also search Ebay for one...New they are about 450.00 and as an optional add, you can get a stick on backrest pad. I wouldn't invest in that unless you have a passenger a lot..Top case ...
