GS Trophy - Well, still in the hunt. Quite an honor...

I was fortunate enough to make the first cut for the GS Trophy. I feel very honored by the company I’m keeping.

Been a Land Rover fanatic and am so glad to find someone re-light the torch for that style of event. I will keep updates posted here for the curious.

Off to train for the inevitable ‘night run’, and/or ‘nighttime TSD rally’!

Hope to hear from the other chosen, as well as those following along vicariously.

I have some tame stuff on smugmug currently, search ‘tfitz4’. I’ll get some photos posted up here later Sunday. On the road until then!

Cheers, Tom Fitzgerald

Aug 10, 2008 - GS Trophy

Tom, I have no doubt that you can put yourself in the winning circle. Your skills and attention to detail have always impressed. Moreover through our years of association with the Blue Ridge Land Rover Club I have firsthand knowledge that you have the drive and knowledge to be a vibrant competitor in the upcoming GS Trophy. Your years of experience with Land Rovers and skills as an off road bike rider will suit you well to represent the U.S. in the upcoming GS Trophy. Best of luck.

Aug 11, 2008 - Thanks..

Bill, appreciate the confidence and kind words. I'll give all my effort and then some. Is that Trials website you designed our own Jim McKenzie's...as in Hendrick Motorsport Jim?? Is that a side venture or did he decide to move on? Just curious. And nice site designs too. Glad to see you're busy! Thanks again, Tom

Aug 11, 2008 - Hey Ty, sorry.

Sorry buddy.....I told you I would be challenged with this blogging thing! Set up a ring & pinion, no problem....a few simple keystrokes, botched. I will keep you abreast of everything right here, and possibly in the thread GS Trophy, in GSpot at ADVRider. Later, Tom

Aug 11, 2008 - Congrats!

Hey Tom, congratulations and good luck! They certainly couldn’t pick a participant with more desire or a better attitude. But really; are you going to make us go to GSpot to keep up with this adventure??!! (Just kidding of course) Alan

Tom,
The Competition Wheels website is my design and the company belongs to Jim. He will soon have a building to house it in.
I also do the website for the Metrolina Trials Riders club.
Feel free to add comments about your adventure on the BRLRC Forum as well.
Don't forget to get a pocketable digital camera to take with you.
Ride On...

Aug 13, 2008 - so exciting

I am so excited to keep up with what you're doing on here... but actually finding your blog is a huge pain because if I click the link I have to log in again and start from scratch... guess I need to spend a little more time on the site or something... or not be so lazy about searching you... or whatever. HOORAY!!!!

Aug 13, 2008 - Thanks Christy

Sorry about that, there have been site issues too, just to make things a little more interesting! Something to do with the sudden, intense spike in activity I'm sure. Thanks again, keep your fingers crossed for me! -- Tom

Aug 13, 2008 - Knock em dead Tom!

Really excited for you and know that you will do great at this! You have lots of experience with this type of adventure racing. Not to mention your ability to build and/or repair anything. I don't think they could find someone better suited to represent BMW motorcycles. Keep us informed as this progresses and best of luck! Aug 13, 2008 - Build it, break it, fix it, win it!

You certainly have the experience, endurance, and mental/physical toughness to excel at this event. This is what you love to do, make it happen! I look forward to viewing your pics on the website. -Sean

Aug 13, 2008 - Go for IT outdoor adventure man

Tom, Can't wait to see the pictures of the trophy ceremony. Congrats on making it this far. If I know you, you'll "never say die" 'till the finish.

Aug 13, 2008 - GO - GS TROPHY

Tom - I found out you were up for the GS Trophy - Congrats! My guess is that they have no idea how good they would have it getting you as a team member. If anyone knows how brutal the Tom Fitzgerald can be - its ME. You've always been a great team member for me whenever we've done races together -- just wanted to let you know. Good luck dude!!

Aug 13, 2008 - Hey Chad..

Ready to switch out of that Jeep and have even more fun??!! Plus there is a growing selection of Rallys being put on east of the Mississippi now, so we could compete again without having to head out west! Think about it. -- Thanks for the compliments as well. I'm doing my best to get there. - Tom
- TFitz4

Aug 13, 2008 - Sean..

Thank you brother...now when are we going to get you out of that damn boat and into a fun hobby vs a money pit?? 'cause we all know motorcycles and Rovers are much more economical than boats to enjoy/maintain.....Talk to you soon. -- Tom
- TFitz4

Aug 13, 2008 - Ahhh... Dr. Jones

My brother, navigator, athletic coach, and perpetual optimist. If only you rode, or they would let us have a support person.... ---- It will be strange for sure if I get to compete, and I have to do it without you. No one to humor my rambling but me in the helmet! As always, thanks for your support. I wouldn't have gotten this far without our success together in competing. I'm doing my best for our 'Team'. - Thanks again Brother. Tom

Aug 13, 2008 - Hi Tom

Got to talk to Alan Biggs and he was telling me about your hopes for the BMW GS Trophy and I wanted to take time and say good job!!!!!! I was glad to ride with you this summer and hope when you get done playing overseas you'll still want to play in WV. Again way to go wish you all the best and hope BMW realizes what a good person, and good representative you'll make. Chuck

Aug 14, 2008 - Well thank you Chuck!

You couldn't keep me out of WV! Now we just need to get you on a GS so Alan and I can get you off the tarmac! --Thanks again,--Tom
- TFitz4

Aug 14, 2008 - Hey Marx House..

Thanks for the Optimistic foreshadowing on the ceremony.....that would be amazing. I would like to get Frederick to do a Moto-tour down to Tiera del Fuego.....you know what they say, 'you can't know how to live until you've been to your own funeral'! When Harrison 's son is talking to Granpa Frederick, will it be about school and business deals, or about the amazing places he's been and things he's seen and done? Not that skiing ain't fun, but I mean epic stuff. Family legend.....that is living. Enough preaching. See you guys soon. ----Tom

Best wishes and we'll keep tabs on you. Looking forward to next year's RRRR ride. Jeff
