ABOUT ME

In my old life, I was a helicopter Aerial Gunner. I spent the better part of my youth on old HDs and clunkers. After 22 years of service, I am now retired and build custom furniture (and nobody shoots at me in Jonestown!). I have a daughter starting college, a son starting grade school and a princess trying to potty train. The top 5 things in my new life are… 5. Beer and story telling (more beer, better stories). 4. Quiet nights in the woodshop with my Pop. 3. Riding on two wheels. 2. Anything with my little people. 1. My beautiful wife Jen. I ditched the clunkers for a brandspankingnew R1200RT; I call her Gretchen. My kidneys are healing fine. Jen and I have an affection for a 200 year old house that takes all of our energy to un-remodel. Jen has never been a big fan of bikes, but she put 200 miles on the RT on her first ride. What a champ!

04/28/07 - R1200RT forgot a health warning!

20 years ago, while living in England, I fell in love. I was a devout HD owner but after years of meathooks for hands, sore back and lose kidneys, I finnaly went to my young love...the BMW. My wife and I picked up my birthday beauty today and I read the ... Read more

01/07/08 - Cold, wet, rain and snow...

I can see her sitting out there on the back porch.  She is just sitting there, waiting.  How does she have the patience to just wait?  It seems so cold out there.

Soon, my love.  Soon.

08/14/07 - Re: R1200RT Passenger Backrest input

Chris,

My wife is exactly the same way.  We tested a top case at the dealership and she thought there was too much space between her back and the actual case.  I agree with Robo, but if the rest is exclusively to accomidate your partner, get what She wants.  Our riding has completely changed since we installed the Bakup rest.  She used to hang on for dear life but now she is so much more relaxed.  We are realy enjoying together rides more now.

07/11/07 - Re: Advice on organizing a camp and ride weekend

These are all great ideas!  I especially like the small groups plan.  I am rethinking my plans to include 2 (maybe 3) solid rides that folks can do on either day depending on thier group decisions.  The area has lots of great rodas but they can lead to nowhere and get you stuck there.  I have a couple of ideas that will give the best rides with the most scenic views of the painted mountains.

I also agree with the state park assessment.  No juicin up for sure. ...

07/08/07 - Advice on organizing a camp and ride weekend

:WARNING: I am only thinknig about putting on this ride.

There is a slight chance that I may be putting on a 3 day/2 night camp and ride in northern PA for the Festival of Leaves.  Not having been on this type of ride as a BMW group, I am concerned about some of the differences and logistics of planning this type of gig.  My experiance in the past is a camp tour where the main theme was "Wha...

06/27/07 - Pinochoi is not a real boy.

For this to be funny, you have to place yourself on a road like Ridge Road in a town like Palmyra PA.  I say this because the story is meant to be funny (it made me laugh anyway).

So there we were, Jen on the 2up of the RT looking totaly smokin'.  We saw an older woman (maybe 65-70), not old but certainly older, waiting to come onto Ridge Road. She was wearing a pink string tank top and no helmet on her Robocop scooter.  She too was looking, wel...
