ABOUT ME
I’ve just recently gotten into motorcycling. I’ve been riding for about a year now. My first bike was a ‘96 Suzuki VS800 Intruder. It was a nice bike but a little small for me. I traded it in on an ‘07 BMW R 1200 RT and I have no regrets. The R 1200 RT is a great bike and I ride it every day. I commute on it to work in all weather (it’s riding season all year here in Austin) and ride it on the weekends whenever I have time.

06/09/07 - Ride, Sunday, 6/3/07
The ROT Rally in Austin was winding down and I didn't go to any of it this year. I decided to jump on my bike on Sunday and take a ride out into the hill country west of Austin. A lot of folks were heading home from the rally, so there were tons of bikes ... Read more
05/20/07 - Ride to Enchanted Rock
Well, I decided to ride from my house in Austin out to Enchanted Rock State Park. I took 1431 thru Marble Falls to 3404 to 71 into Llano, then took 16 south to 965 to the park. 3404 goes through some beautiful terrain. There were a lot of flowers in blo ... Read more

09/01/07 - Re: Help - need your input on the best BMW bike for commutin
You should look at the 650cc bikes, if you don't mind riding an enduro style bike.
I commute in Austin on my RT, but I tend to miss the buik of rush hour, and I don't have that far to go. I don't know if I'd want to lane split on a bike with big bags or a Boxer, since the cylinder heads stick out the sides of the bike.

I used to hang out on the intruder alert forums. Those forums were active, but it seemed most of the posts occurred on the "General Discussion" portion of the site. The posts there consisted of political/religious sniping and trolling. I get enough talk about Iraq, the economy, the environment, etc. in the papers and on TV. I like this forum since folks talk about their bikes and things related to their bikes.
And to repeat what Jack asked, "We ha &l...
08/20/07 - Royal Gorge - Hartsel Ride
Well, on Saturday (8/18/07) my dad and I decided to take the RT's
for a spin. We headed out on Austin Bluffs past UCCS aka
CU-Colorado Springs. We rode down I-25 to Circle and took 115 down
to Penrose. From there we headed west on 50 to the Royal
Gorge. We didn't go to the bridge but stopped at a picnic area
to take some pictures of the east end of the gorge. Here's a
picture of my dad and the two bikes at the picnic area.

The road in the foreground is a frontage road next to the historical marker. You can see 287 just to the left of the frontage. Good question though. I should have made that clear in the posting
08/19/07 - Re: Colorado Trip Start
As I packed for my trip to Colorado Wednesday evening, Tropical Storm Erin lumbered across the Gulf of Mexico into Texas. I don't fear riding in the rain, but riding through a hurricane is a different story. My original plan put me leaving Austin on Friday, August 17th, but Erin's approach hastened my departure. I put the Givi topcase on my RT, attached the left pannier, attached the right pannier, and - POP! - a loud noise came from the bag as I pressed down on the la...
