The ROT Rally in Austin was winding down and I didn’t go to any of it this year. I decided to jump on my bike on Sunday and take a ride out into the hill country west of Austin. A lot of folks were heading home from the rally, so there were tons of bikes on the road.

I headed west on 1431 through Marble Falls and passed a bunch of Harleys and metric cruisers on the way. I stopped at a scenic overlook just outside of Kingsland. A couple of Harley guys stopped to take a look as well, and we talked for a while before they took off. I rode to Llano and headed south on 16. I decided to take 965 instead of 16 to Fredricksburg since there’s more twisties. Unfortunately, I got stuck behind guy riding 2-up on a Harley and a pickup truck, so I had to take it slower than I’d have liked, but it gave me time to enjoy the scenery.

Once I got to Fredricksburg, I had a choice to make: head west and then north to 29 or head east on 290 back to Austin. I had to make it to a TXRG Roller Derby bout, so I decided to head back into town.

Later on that night, I rode the bike to the bout. Halfway through the evening, a big storm came through and the rink lost power. I got to ride back home through a downpour. The lightning was impressive. Luckily I only had a couple miles to ride.
