ABOUT ME
Almost half a century savoring the joy of fine transportation experience has led me through the power trips of American hot rods, 48 US states (and a number of foreign countries) on two wheels, and a garage full of German and British machines. I have ridden well over a quarter million miles on 7 BMW motorcycles (and who knows how many on other marques), savored the love – hate relationships Italian and British bikes have with their owners, and have learned that maybe we all do deserve the best!
bmwscooter has not created any rides yet.
01/05/07 - Motorcycle Friendly Country? Head for the Hills!
*Things Do Not End, Things Change* The email from Dave Cwi (famous as _Dancin' Dave, The Mileage Slave_ in the _BMW Owners News_) announced a Raider Ride (http://mileageslaves.com/Raiders.htm ) through the Arkansas Ozarks for the end of August. A coup ... Read more
12/19/06 - On Condition Maintenance
All maintenance is not scheduled, no matter what it says in your owners' manual. When it became painful to sit at a computer, I decided that it was time to for some fault isolation by my "personal service tech" (read that as family doctor). Ste ... Read more

Not trying to start a synthetic vs. dead dino's, but:
Considering my own experience, I'm not sure I totally agree. My 03 R1150RT has had Mobile 1 (5W50) since the 12,000 mile mark. Now with a bit over 30,000 (all kinds of year-round riding from city stop and go through 900+ mile Interstate days), it continues to use just under a quart between 6,000 mile changes.
But to answer your question, "...
04/14/07 - Re: '07 K12 GT After-Market Seats; Anybody Tried One?
Asking for advice on after market seats is sometimes like asking about oil: it depends.
I have used (and liked) seats from Sagent's, Corbin, and even EZ Berg. The one thing I have learned is that each offering for each bike is different. Each maker seems to have a different basic design (shape) for different model bikes, and each rider seems to have a different shape butt - so you would want to find a match to those shapes.
For example: the Corbin I used on my '8...
04/14/07 - Re: Lowering the GS
Replacing the stock shocks with those from an RT will effectively lower a GS. A friend I ride with from time to time has done that and appears to have no ill effects. He picked up the shocks through his dealer who matched him with another individual who had replaced the stock shocks on his new RT with aftermarket.

01/06/07 - Re: oil change woes
Did you change your oil befor you parked / stored the bike? Believe your owners' manual addresses things like that - "used" / "old" oil is not like fine wine, it does not get better with age, fresh oil before storage is a good thing. Just my opinion, but I don't like sludge.
