ABOUT ME
The K1200RS has been traded for an ‘08 K1200S. The RS was lacking road clearance and was a handful to hustle through the corners. I am absolutely pleased with the ‘S’. It is so much easier to ride than the RS. If you are on the fence about buying a new K bike go take an hour test ride. If you like to ‘push’ a little you will be convinced. After 30 years of riding I have discovered the joy of track day schools. I attended my first in September ‘06 at Virginia International Raceway with the Reg Pridmore CLASS school and followed it up in November with a Team ProMotion ART school again at VIR. In ‘07 I followed up with the Team ProMotion ART Level 2 school. Since then I have taken a number of track schools. The personal attention and help the instructors give is incredible. You ask for help and they are there to both instruct and demonstrate on the course.These schools are a blast! I have learned an incredible amount and am a much safer road rider. My ‘02 K1200RS was not the fastest nor the lightest bike on the track but fitted with a set of sticky Dunlop Qualifer tires it was great fun.The new ‘08 K1200S is a much better choice for playing hard. Again it’s not the lightest or the fastest (not that you need more speed than an S) but what a difference from the old KRS. The new ABS system is incredible. The control and stopping power makes passing on the brakes a real joy. There are always much faster riders but NO ONE has more fun than me.If you have not done a track day do yourself a favor and try it. Back in ‘06 at the ProMotion ART school I was suiting up and another rider stopped to check out my bike. After talking for a few minutes I realized it was Nate Kern the Boxer Cup Champion. Nate spent some much appreciated time giving me helpful hints on better riding. Though out the day Nate would stop and see how I was doing.He was involved with professional level training and I was riding with the novice but it was great to have such a high caliber rider to take the time with me. The folks at BMW have a great ambassador for their brand with Nate Kern. He is a top notch rider and even better he is highly personable.
