Hi, oh were do I start. My name is Jim Stoddard and I have been riding motorcycles for most of my life starting with the Rupp mini bikes as a kid. When I was in the military I always had access to motorcycles and rode when ever I could but with 2 little kids it was not that often. My motorcycle addiction really took off when I drove by a Yamaha dealer when I was shopping for my oldest sons 6th Birthday. There sat in the window a new PW50. After I purchased that bike for my son,I needed a bike to ride with him so I bought one for me and joined a local riding club. From there I started racing New England Hare Scrambles, became the club presidant, was trailboss for several Hare Scrambles and Junior Enduros. Raced the infamous Blackwater 100 for it last 2 years. Earned my expert ( A) card, finished in the top 6 in the NETRA open class 3 years in row ( Best was 4th place open overall at the end of year and 2 amatuer overall trophys)This was our life for several years. Than the wife asks me to take a few years and build a new house so the bike takes a back burner. After 2 years my obligation for getting the house done is complete. I have enough cash to by a new 450 enduro. As timing dictates most decisions in life, my Dad was selling his Triumph 1200 sport tourer for the same price as a new enduro. My wife (Lisa) tells me she would rather I get the street bike so she could be part of the fun instead of waiting at the truck for me all day. So my Street addiction takes off. The first year with the bike I had to go to Vegas for a business meeting, so I take 3 days out and 3 days back just over 6K miles. A friend of mine tells me about the Iron Butt Association and that sounds like a good way to challenge myself. The only problem is the Triumph is not reliable enough for this type of riding. So Here I get a left over 03 K12GT with 12 miles on her. Lisa and I completed the IBA National Park Tour 55 National parks in 28 states in less than 4 months, competed in a few 1000 mile IBA sponsered rallies. In 2007 I got my oldest son who is now 25 hooked on LD riding as we completed the IBA Bun Burner gold 1515 miles in 23hrs 40 min. on our way to the Xplore Bonneville event. During all this road riding I was missing the dirt so Lisa buys me a 2007 GSA for our 25th wedding anniversary. The dirt addiction takes over from here. we take the GSA every where.. pack our camping gear and find some really remote locations. Our latest trip was a quick blast through Quebec, Labrador, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and back to upstate NY. 700 plus miles of dirt, 4 ferries camped 5 of the 6 nights. I try to make all the Xplore events to get some good training and comraderie. I have made Pine Barons, Adirondacks, Bonneville and the Blue Ridge events. With just 4 years on BMW Motorcycles I have 99400 miles on my K12GT and 24500 on my 1200 Adventure and have no plans on slowing down. Being a mechanic for the last 25 years has definately helped me in maintaining my bikes. I do the majority of all my own repairs and I am confident in making repairs in the field. See you all out there somewhere

Re: dirt 1000 in 24hr possible 1500 dirt in 36hrs

Sounds like you are really into this Iron Butt stuff, I did a BBG1500 in 2007 after working all day, ended up in Lexington Nebraska with 1515 miles in 23 hrs 40 minutes 63.3 MPH speed average. There was nothing to do in Nebraska at 3 in the afternoon se I made it to Ft Collins before we stopped. 1862 miles total.

I thought about getting a SS2000 bbut was having too much fun in the rockies and lost track of time the next morning.

Last weekend Lisa and i did the Minuteman 1000 on the...
