ABOUT ME
I completed a solo 43,300 mile, six month, cross-country motorcycle adventure on my R1200GS in 2006. I left Maine in mid-April. Rode Deal’s Gap on my birthday. Arrived in Arizona in mid-May. Left Nevada in late June. Spent more than a month and 10,000 miles in Alaska before leaving there in late August to return to home by early October. Stayed in a motel three times. To say it was fantastic, is an understatement. However, I do not like Ramen noodle packets anymore.

04/16/07 - Re: Alaska
I would consider heading north from NJ into Upstate NY, crossing into Canada in near Kingston, ON (US 81/ON 401). Head to Renfrew, pick up CN 17 to Sudbury, ON head to Sault St Marie, either continue on 17 over Lake Superior to Thunder Bay or take RT 2 across the Upper Peninisula of MI and northern WI to Duluth, MN. From here you would have a bunch of options continue on RT 2, head southwest toward Sioux Falls, SD and head west toward the Badlands / Black Hills, take Canada 17 to Winnipeg. I am...
03/12/07 - Re: A Light Subject
I have an R1200GS and I wanted plenty of light. I installed a Terranova light bar. A pair of Hella FF50 driving lights hang from the underside of the bar and a pair of xenon Hella FF200 HID are mounted on top of the bar. I wired the lights so that the FF50s are controled from a switch on my handle bars and are either on or off. The FF200 HIDs are wired to a SPDT switch which is mounted to a bracket I made near the speedometer. When the SPDT switch is up the HIDs are linked to the Hi-beam ligh...

I put 44,000 miles on my '06 R12GS during a solo, six-month, cross-country trip this past summer, and rode a total of 49,000 miles between late January '06 and mid November '06.

It is on the
right hand side of the opening page toward the very bottom. It links
you to here:
http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/pdfs/BMW_Dealer_Insert.pdf
The other link that was posted is also very good, and will
allow you to input the locations into a GPS. I was originally thinking
of just good low-tech, fail-safe paper.

I have put 44,000 miles on an '06 R12GS and 22,000 on an R1100S
without a single mechanical problem. I have gotten one flat tire on my
GS, which I was able to easily patch with my tire plug kit that I
carry. When I am on an extended trip I carry:
quart of oiltire plug kitsmall
aircompressorassortment of tools
A cell
phoneMy AAA card, good for 100 mile towMy MOA
book, lists all the BMW dealers and tons of people willing to
help
If you have the BMW Navigator GPS it
lists all t...
