ABOUT ME
Been riding for 25 years and the 2001 R1100S is my first BMW. Love the bike. Actually decided to sell my VTR1000 (Superhawk) and Kawasaki ZRX1100, since the BMW fits all my needs to go fast and tour.
Been doing a lot fo long weekends in Vermont, New Hampshire, the Adirondacks, and occasionaly Maine or Mass… Heading odd to Pennsylvania next in search of winding back roads…

Hey Sercher...
My R1100S surged noticably at first and of course BMW admits nothing. This has been discussed for a decade on the 'net and there are lots and lots of articles on it..... You can do somethign about it though. If you are mechanically inclined you can do some adjustments that will dramatically improve the smoothness... Best to make sure the bike is out of warranty first though...
In a nutshell:
- Adjust the valves very carefully. This is easier then it sound...
