ABOUT ME
Hi my name is Brent. I live in eastern Washington with my wife and 2 teenage daughters. For work, I design wireless modems. Until now I’ve never owned a BMW but have been riding since I was 13. Mostly Harley’s. I love anything with 2 wheels and ride my road or mountain bicycle daily to stay fit.

[quote user='Baker330i']Streckers,If you have oil in your driveshaft you've gottroubles.Seriously modern BMWs don't have shaft oil.MB[/quote} I figured that the "drive shaft" was a good enough explanaton as to the oil I'm talking about. How about the oil for the rear wheel pinion gear then. I'm sure someone will set me strait as to the correct name for it.

One more thing. I need to replace the drive shaft oil as well what do you recommend?

I didn't know the reason for the differences between tranys and clutches you just spelled out, so thanks for the (futile?) comparison. I'll give the gear oil you suggested a try as well. Thanks Brent

Wow....your dealer is a real piece of work! Any new news on your starting problem?
Anyhow, if we where to take the Honda and BMW tranys apart I think we would see a design diffrence that keeps the floating gears in the Honda spining a little, while in nutral. I think the BMW gears spin for a little while anywhy, that is why enagaging the clutch quickly before shifing will give you several seconds to put it in gear before the gears stop.

This is getting interesting. Maybe your BMW service department can figure out the real problem, cause Ajaxthedog's couldn't. Please let us know what they find.
