They handle well, but since I've not tried anything else on my RT maybe I don't know how much better they could be.
Because of the crappy Missouri roads and sand and gravel they leave on them, I has reduced a lot of my agressive riding so maybe that is contributing to the long life of my tires. My front lasted 13,000 miles and my current rear is well over 8,000 (too darned many flats, so my rears haven't worn out)
05/11/08 - Re: Compare and contrast BMW lineup
My wife only lets me have 1 bike at a time. So, I have an RT. I commute daily. It is great. The windshield and fairing is perfect for bad weather and the hard cases are perfect.
I get about 47 MPG combined now that they had gone to E10 gas all over Missouri. When I go on trips, I get 50+ MPG.
I had a naked bike prior to this. A Sportster 1200C. I was a great bike and I miss it, but in bad weather I suffered a bit. I toured and commuted on it. My MPG was about 45.
05/11/08 - Re: R1200RT cold start issue goes to BMW in Germany
The BMW corporation doesn't seem to care about the owners of its machines. Evidently owning a BMW should be enough for you.
However, my local BMW dealer does care and they do everythng they can.
That said, I haven't had any issues starting, down to 18 degrees. Just hit the button and let it rund for the time it takes to get my gloves on.

Check the preload under the seat.
On my test ride, i had no problem. After doing the paperwork and going throught the bike, the store owner cranked the preload up.
Darn I was tippy toeing....

My front lasted 13,000 miles and had maybe 1,000 left according to the dealer.
I keep getting flats in the rear, so I ave not worn one out, although my current rear has 8,000 on it.
